Advice Please - Best Portable Oxygen Concentrator

Hi,

I'm looking for advice regarding the best Mobile / Portable Oxygen Concentrator.

There are a number on the market but would be glad to hear from anyone who uses one and the pros and cons. It's for my Mum who struggles with carrying the O2 Bottles around.

Hi Calumm,

I use the Inogen One G3 with the 16 cell battery, it provides pulse dose oxygen between 1 and 5 litres per minute, the battery lasts up to 8 and half hours, depending on your flow rate, it is very comfortable to carry around.

Has your mum been assessed for using a pulse dose portable oxygen concentrator? Pulse dose detects your breathing and supports your breathing, whereas bottled oxygen is continuous flow, you can get continuous flow POCs, but they are much heavier, needing to be wheeled around and only supply continuous flow up to 3 litres per minute, they also have a much shorter battery life.

Are you using the standard cylinder or the much smaller paediatric cylinders. You should have no need to carry any of the cylinders as the come with a bag and trolley see you respitory team who organised the HOOF.

your provider can supply a portable unit although quite heavy 10lbs come with trailer, would give you a good idea as to suitability before going through the expensive self purchase.

As for self purchase, look for cost, weight, battery life. There’s several new ones on the market.

Ideally a test run at your required setting to ensure you maintain a oxygen desaturation of 90/93 whilst walking before you have to stop.

The Airsep Freestyle is light and quiet but it only supplies 2 litres per minute pulse flow. I use one and it's great.

You can buy second user for £700 or less. One on e bay at the moment. Inogen are also very good but a bit heavier and noisier.

I’m on Oxygen I use an Imogen one portable Concentrator but it’s only got the 8 cell battery good for around 4 hours they do a 16 cell battery but I can’t get one

The other thing I use which I think would do the job for you would be liquid oxygen the canister is very light good for a few hours and easy to transport

Give it ago and ask to try one out

She needs to ask her resp nurse to order one of her oxygen supplier

Mine is a Imagen one. If it goes wrong your supplier will come out and fix it best of luck
