Saturday again!

How many Saturdays

Are there in the week?

Have they stuck another in

What a bloody cheek?

I no sooner deal with one

When another comes along

I'm sure it never was like this

When I was young and strong

Is this why the footballers

Are paid such massive fees

When they have those crowds

Of supporters to appease

It's not much help to me though

Two weekly shops each week

I get myself so breathless

And I'm wearing out my feet

Its' cause by that darn clock I know

That goes round far too fast

I think I'll get my hammer out

And give the thing a bash.

Really like that one Don. Shopping becomes a nightmare so I tried that online thing. Not for me, I'd rather be exhausted than not see other folk to chat to. Have a good weekend, hopefully no more rain. Jane

in reply to chubby2x22

Yes online has it’s purpose Jane I use it for heavy stuff. 😉

So true Don, the clock is whizzing round.

Must admit Don time is flying by, Mondays come along and before you know it its Saturday again. I sometimes shop three times a week so think my feet will wear out fast ha! x

Time does pass by so quickly Don

Wherever does it go?

I turned around at 21 and really didn’t know

Just how fast the years would pass

Surely it can’t be so

I’m nearly 67, however can that be

I clearly can remember three children at my knee

All grown up and married now

Young children of their own

It won’t be long, par for the course

They too will all be grown.

Thank you Don, one of your best. Xxx 👍💖😘

Thank you dear SH, I do like poetry.

He’s fine so far thank you. I’ll make sure he stays well if I can.

It was a year ago today Pete was rushed into hospital with severe sepsis. He remembers nothing thank goodness.

You stay well. Xxx 💋😀❤️Well

Oh I'm glad you are both well. That was really my reason for asking about Pete as I can remember last year and just how terribly ill he was. Poor man, thank goodness he doesn't remember much of it. After all that, you were shattered,so let's keep this year free from any hospital admissions, for everyone here on BLF. You are a real champion @sassy59,you are a total 🌟!!! 💞

I remember that awful day too well. What a terrible anniversary and yet a happy one, because Pete got through it and is doing better. Lots of love and best wishes to you both.

By the way your poem brought a tear (or several) to my eye.

Timing is important during the week based on when children have to be met from school. Near Xmas time I shop in the middle of the night. 😃That is quite an adventure which don’t intend doing too often.🙄

That is so true Don children coming out of school must be avoided at all times. I'm afraid I couldn't do shopping anytime after 5pm all my telly programs start then and once I'm in bed that's me done for the day

Good morning Mr.D and another Saturday lands upon us all 🤔! Loving your rhyme and every word is a true word (apart from the 🔫 shotgun, i hope. Although thinking about it, it sure would send those leaflet people from pushing a load of unwanted information about windows or gutter clearing, through the letterbox every day ,a clear sign eh? 🔫💥).Wishing you a good Saturday from your friendly 🐿. 💕

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

I don't have a shotgun any more SH, the days of splashing around the marshes with my faithful black Labrador, wildfowling to fill the larder are nearly sixty years behind me.

Good morning Master Po as you scoff at my late rising

I have some news for you which you may find quite surprising

Deliveries are all the rage for quite a small monthly fee

And you can have your culinary delights put on your table quite easily

It beats dodging trolleys wheeled by frantic mums and screaming kids

And for the sake of peace and quiet it's worth spending those few quids.

Ski,s and Scruff's home delivery addicts x

in reply to skischool

I wasn't scoffing, I envy you, Midge doesn't allow such lazy behaviour. 😂 I use online shopping and even wrote about the experience on here. But I sometimes feel in need of the company.

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to

Scruff's mithers me for treats early and normally snuggles up on the end of the bed when i fail to oblige but i always ensure there is plenty on her plate when i retire often in the early hours, yes i do like to amble around Sainsbury's but rarely meet anyone exotic in the deli section and those in the frozen aisle are rather cold when it comes to conversation. :)

Oh golly gosh Mr. D, I'd replied, at length, only to find I'd pressed a button and 🌪"woosh", it all disappeared. So annoying. Here goes again:- I can picture you with (dont let Midge hear you)your labrador and shotgun, trudging through the marshlands to catch your grouse(?) or other birds. These must be great memories for you my friend. Time moves on and now with Midge by your side and the two girls awaiting in your campervan, you can explore by road and take in the views and breathe that wonderful clean air. Saturdays especially when its pouring with rain, are a "chill out day", time to reflect. Thats another example of why your funny rhymes are so helpfull 😜🐿💕

Hi Don, Just finished reading another of your Poems. They each have an element of how many of us of a certain age feel and can relate to,. I can't help but wonder when you started writing them or what prompted you to start. As a child did you have a way with words then? I find it amazing how quickly you put them together each day. What a gift, for not just writing but being able to home in to our everyday lives past and present.

in reply to RoadRunner44

I didn't realise how many I had written until I went through the list under my profile looking for this link. It would be a pity if they were lost since so many have said how they like them. But I'm too old and tired to bother with them now. They are my gift to BLF and if they want them and can find a younger person to consolidate they are welcome to do so.

You ask how it all came about and this link might explain some of it healthunlocked.com/blf/post....

I am very happy with my shopping deliveries. No way do I miss traipsing round a supermarket. I guess you are pretty fit Don and enjoy the exercise.

Time certainly does fly these days, never went fast enough in the old days, sitting in an office looking forward to the weekend. Love Iris x

in reply to Lyd12

I don't think I look very fit when I'm shopping, Iris, leaning on my trolley almost horizontal (always the small size) chatting to anyone who looks like they might listen, gasping for breath at the end of each corridor. Sometimes it's the only time i see a human being close up during the week! But yes, I get round. 😁😘
