Hopefully One Day Soon . . .

So I hope from my introduction people will see I really am trying to keep positive to do the best for my health and I find other people's posts on here encouraging but after 14 months not smoking I so wish the yearning for a rollup would go away!

Hello,

I, luckily, never smoked. My husband was a smoker. He says the sudden fancy for a roll up still happens after 13 years! However, the fancy happens less frequently as time goes on and is now a fleeting fancy not a deep craving.

You've done really well to get through over a year non smoking. You deserve a treat for doing so well

Thank you.

Try distraction techniques when those feelings decend on you. For example, go online and see what's happening on The Forum. Anything to take your mind off it. Keep it up!

Thanks Roadrunner, that's exactly what I do. Although I have the yearning to have a rollup I never consider actually doing so. . . . I would be too ashamed as my husband, children, and grandchildren would be devastated.

If it's any consolation I yearn for a large choc ice but because I'm prediabetic I refuse to buy any. We all have to make choices and its very hard at times. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

I gave up almost 4 years ago, like you smoked roll-ups and yes, I still occasionally get that urge that is getting less each year. I also know that I would go into convulsions of coughing if I tried because that is what happened when I quit, my lungs are also now in a bad state and have no desire for them to get worse, from any cause.

Keep going it does get less frequent and less severe as time goes on. Hopefully you will also develop the revulsion towards the stench of smouldering tobacco that many ex smokers get.

Well said 2greys I couldn't have said it better myself.

Thanks 2greys and Dilly2, I also wish to develop the revulsion towards the stench of smouldering tobacco!

Well done

Hi Hula and welcome to the forum! Well done you- I’m not far behind at 1 year and 2 days quit. I still get the occasional pang too but usually after a meal or when I have a glass of wine.

I don’t mind so much- it’s more a passing thought than a real desire. I remind myself of all the reasons I gave up in the first place and within a minute I’m back to being grateful I don’t ever have to be a smoker again! I can breathe so much better now. (Well, generally I can. I have a chest infection right now but you get the gist)!

Keep up that good work.

Well done Artichokes, really pleased for you that your breathe is so much better.

Thanks 2greys and Dilly2, I also wish to develop the revulsion towards the stench of smouldering tobacco!

I don’t know if I can say hello and welcome when you’ve been here almost a year, but hello and welcome anyway 😊It’s nice to meet you.

Hello HungryHufflepuff and thank you so much for your welcome and it's so nice to meet you.

Yes, you can definitely say hello, I've been hiding for almost a year . . . . other people's posts have been helping me, I have been and am trying so hard to do the best I can for my health and for my family, and it may sound silly but especially for my young dog . . . . health problems only started/showed after I got my puppy.

Your welcome made me cry . . . . I'm okay most of the time but crying suddenly comes on occasionally . . . . . .perhaps it's regrets and guilt.

It wasn’t my intention to make you cry. It’s ok to cry sometimes. And it’s definitely not silly to care so much about your dog. Our furry friends are as important to us as any human ones and very much part of the family.

Morning to you Hulahooper I know where your at I stopped 4 year ago after 43 yrs of smoking not for health reasons as I've only been diagnosed this year with lung disease it was because of cost and the horrible way my clothes smelled .I'm glad I did as I've got ILD and not COPD which could have been if I hadn't stopped .My ILD is through being in the building trade not through smoking I have a craving for one every now and then but it soon passes it is hard but you have got so far and just think of your grandkids you will be able hopefully to steer them on the right path away from smoking .Good luck and keep it up 😋

Thank you.

Can I suggest you get a copy of Allen Carr's Stop Smoking the Easyway? There's a bool combined with a CD out now. I found it very helpful and motivated me to stop smoking. Might be worth a try.

Its a fantastic book Sparky and the one that stopped me smoking 10 years ago. I felt absolutely fabulous when I stopped, almost euphoric and it all made sense, it really was easy with this book and I had tried sooooo many times before and failed. I think you can buy it second hand for about 30p x

Sorry Hulahooper , meant to say welcome and hope you try the above book x
