Hi all have not been on for a while.

I gave up smoking with the help of Nicolette inhaler but now after a year I’m addicted to it, doctor says it won’t harm me but I’m wondering if it is as my lung function has dropped 10percent over the year, has anybody else experience this

Thanks jane

Jane,i have had discussions with various medical professionals including respiratory consultants with regard to continued use of nicotine replacement therapies and none of them have indicated that they would harm the lungs and add to regression in your lung condition and capacity.

However it is still a nicotine addiction, obviously preferable to the damage done by smoking and you could be precluded from various surgical procedures, especially invasive ones as nicotine is an impairment to recovery from those procedures i am made to believe.

Obviously it would be preferable if you could reduce and eventually stop taking them as nicotine in any form is of no benefit to our bodies.

So after a long ramble as far as i know your decrease in lung capacity may be due to other causes but please seek advice as i have no qualifications to advise you personally.

Best wishes Ski's and Scruff's
