Sometimes medication can cause this. Why not try gargling with salt water?

Perhaps try taking sips of a fizzy drink or mixing up a solution of bicarbonate of soda, sometimes gases passed back from the tummy help to shift stubborn food and it make well work with mucus, caution of course is always the word used.

Good luck x

I chew sugar free gum and drink soda water. It helps. problem is when finished gum, back it comes. try sugar free sweets and even sweets with sugar. i think medication causes this problem. gargling with salt water can help, but to do this regular is not good. Sorry can't be more help,

It's a shame you can't use a sinus rinse Carol. I used to get dried mucus stuck at the back of my throat, I think from post nasal drip, it used to make me gag. I trained myself to nose breathe and began using a neti pot. It changed my life! 😊

Breathing in steam (to which is added eucalyptus oil) might help soften it?

Thanks moody girl I’m going to give it another go I’m drowning in mucus didn’t want to make matters worse xx

Have you been taught the Active Cycle of Breathing ? Drink loads, being well hydrated will help. Maybe steam inhalation? Good luck.

If its connected to your sinus's try inhaling menthol cystals or take an antihistamine it could help. These are what I use when my sinus' are playing up x

My first thought was - hot drinks. Lots of good advice on here. I was driven silly last week with indigestion. One Gaviscon later, instant cure! I hope you feel better soon Carol

Try NAC - works for me - available on internet but I believe some enlightened doctors will prescribe it- well researched antioxidant that breaks up mucus 👍

Are they the same as carbocystien caps ? X

I use Pilocarpine. It causes your nose and throat to loosen the mucus - I struggle with this too as I have Sjogren's syndrome, but this does help. Note though that it might raise blood pressure

Hi what is pilocarpine? X

It is a script medication (allopathic) - at least here in the US. Here is some information:

DESCRIPTION

Pilocarpine, in appropriate dosage, can increase secretion by the exocrine glands. The sweat, salivary, lacrimal, gastric, pancreatic, and intestinal glands and the mucous cells of the respiratory tract may be stimulated.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

Pilocarpine hydrochloride tablets are indicated for 1) the treatment of symptoms of dry mouth from salivary gland hypofunction caused by radiotherapy for cancer of the head and neck; and 2) the treatment of symptoms of dry mouth in patients with Sjogren's Syndrome.

I took this from the FDA website, but since they don't like links here, you can google it yes?
