Now that I am getting old

There's things I cannot do.

That's no reason for sadness

Or for feeling blue

Some things that I always did

Were habits through and through

Some things now I think of it

I never wanted to

So when my 'can't do things'

Began to gradually accrue

I sat down to have a think

And saw that as my cue

To cut out all these useless things

For extra resting time

The world kept on turning round

And I am doing just fine.

That's very good Don.

I recently went to see GP about the same things.

Blood test and they find I have NAID (Non Anaemic Iron Deficiency)!

I haven't had a ferritin test for some 6 years and have been slowly going downhill!

Now on Iron tabs.

Good morning Mr.D and this days rhyme, for some reason, brought a tear to my eyes 😢 not because I felt sad, quite the opposite actually ..... It was a tear of 😅 agreement in that I too spend time doing useless things and life being so short,i need to change my prioritories. So thank you for your rhyme Mr.D. 💞

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

I would rather write funny one's to cheer people up, SH, but they don't come as easy as they did. 🤔

SquirrelsHolt profile image
SquirrelsHolt in reply to

Mr.D. just keep doing what you are because they really set so many of us up for the day.

Thinking about it,life isnt always a barrel of laughs is it ,so your wide range of rhymes are "true rhymes" if you see what i mean.💞

That's another compliant I have. Circumstances choosing what I eat when I thought living alone meant eating whatever I wanted.😕

Dont have to use M&S. Other shops are good for choice. Have fun, trying them all out. Xxxx

in reply to Hacienda

I've recently returned to buying all my main meals from Wiltshire Farm Foods, just bung them in the microwave, you don't even have to pierce the plastic lid. I have enough trouble with the other meals. (if I bother with them.)

skischool in reply to

I am glad you enjoy your Wiltshire farm foods, they used to do a soft diet version for stroke people and the likes with swallowing problems, although they were probably the best on the market once Cecilia's swallowing improved and although she did not have the power of speech her eyes would tell me to get my a**e in the kitchen and make her some proper nosh lol :) x

in reply to skischool

Your lovely Cecilia would never have said that if your cooking skills matched mine. WFF still do soft food which I might have to turn to one day because of only being able to hold a spoon in my arthritic hands.☹️x

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to

Please never go down that avenue unless swallowing problems require it Don,food without texture is horrid and only people in Space craft should eat it,if you ever get that desperate whatever is left of me will come and chop up your food for you.:) x

in reply to skischool

Thank you Skis, what a kind offer. However, if there was ever a saying which describes me it's- "He eats to live rather than lives to eat." I would happily live solely on fish, chips and mushy peas, but for health reasons I have to shove down there a lot of stuff I don't like very much.

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to

Them peas are dam healthy, just double up on the peas, also a good source of fibre. :) x

in reply to skischool

I have a bowl of bran flakes for breakfast to keep me going. Years ago I accidentality spilt some bran flakes on the floor and Midge quickly gobbled them up. Since then it's been traditional that I drop her a helping on the floor that way because they are good for dogs too.

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to

I had to give up on bran flakes because of my throat but they are the best source of fibre on the market,i also like albran, not many do but it is a great provider of regularity and my guts should be the last to fail :) x

in reply to skischool

I hope they get that throat sorted for you. Sounds like you need a rebore. 🤔

You are not far from reality Don,if it isn't the big C and just a permanent restriction they can put a stent in possibly as effective as a re-bore :) x

in reply to skischool

You seem to know more about your inside than I know of my outside! 🙂

Needs must Don,after 5 rs looking after my little lady and now 3 looking after me i have had to learn fast and knowledge is a powerful thing when surrounded by sometimes incompetent and uncaring medical people. :( x

in reply to skischool

I know it hasn't been easy for you. I tend to follow the 'out of sight out of mind' path as far as possible and I've been very lucky in that respect so far.😐

skischool profile image
skischool in reply to

That's because a certain lady called Margaret is looking after you old chap, but she can only do so much with her magic sparkles. :) x

Skis can you eat solid foods after a stent? I hope your food parcel has arrived by now and you’ve been able to eat some. I wondered how you’re managing to take your medications if you can’t swallow, or maybe you have inhalers only. What a crummy (no pun intended) situation for you to find yourself in. Friday seems like forever away but hopefully your appointment will finally start to get you some help and care 🤞

skischool in reply to HungryHufflepuff

i have binned the meds for the time being as they are long term and i won't die of highish bp or cholesterol in 2 weeks :)soup only arrived at 6 and once i had skimmed the tiny bits off the veg soup which was the veg?which stuck in my throat it was ok with, wait for it,chicken bovril ha ha :) x

My chickens are starting to get nervous when I mention your name now 😱

Yes well certainly I don’t think you need to worry too much about your cholesterol at the moment.

And so they should be,anything in feathers that can be turned into soup is fair game to me now :)

There are 2 sorts of special knives that can help. One has the blade set at right angles to the handle, which can allow for enough pressure to be put on the meat holding the handle with the four fingers around it, less pain from fingers/joints and no pressure on palm.

The other is a circular blade, which has a round handle, and is meant to be rocked on the food. These sound a bit weird, have known them work for some people.

in reply to SORRELHIPPO

To be honest SH the sooner I can spoon it down and get on with something useful the better. But I will keep your suggestions in mind for if I change, thank you. 🙂

Every now and then dear Don you come up with a classic

That's not to say in that dept you are ever brassic

Today's musings are excellent and really tell a tale

Of how we need to take stock of life as our energy levels fail.

Nice one Master Po x

in reply to skischool

Thank you Grasshopper. That second line had me flummoxed. 🤔

skischool profile image

Brassic is cockney rhyming slang for skint as in Boracic Lint or in your case being short of talent in the rhyming dept.which you clearly are not. :) x
