Bipap and night oxygen

Hi everyone,. Had my Bipap checkup yesterday, blood gases were so so. I mentioned to the lovely lady I wasn’t sure if my lung had partially collapsed again as my chest back hurt. Upshot was she sent me off with the overnight kit to check oxygen levels which went back this morning. They’ve looked at my last x ray when I was in hospital mid sept which showed a partial collapsed lung and have arranged oxygen for night only to be delivered tomorrow. Bit of a shock really but needs must. Silly question coming up now - do they normally supply cylinders or a concentrator . Thanks for your help xx Rose

Hi Rose,

I use BiPAP and oxygen, I’m on oxygen 15 hours a day, but that does include 8 hours at bedtime, you should be given a concentrator, otherwise you would be changing bottles every day, a portable oxygen bottle would only last up to 8 hours on 1 litre and considerably less the higher your setting.

I hope I have been some help,

Ian xx.

Thanks Ian. It was all a bit unexpected so forgot to ask. Once again thanks for your help xx

Hi. I have both. The large cylinder is a back-up in case we have a power cut. All the best.

Thanks everyone. They brought my concentrator and back up cylinder at lunch time, will be interesting if I notice any difference in the morning. I’m on 1ltr apparently.

On a completely different subject it looks like I’ve been successful with my pip claim as my back pay went into the bank this morning - only problem now is until

the postie brings my letter I don’t know what level I’ve been awarded and I’m busting to know if I’ll get a blue badge for parking if I’m lucky enough to have been given the higher rate..

You can get a blue badge dependent on how far you can walk. So apply. If you need help Age UK or Citizens Advice can assist in completing the form. Best of luck.

Thank you. I’ve got the higher rate mobility so I’ll take all the necessary paperwork to the customer service people and ask them to complete it all now as I’m automatically entitled to it now. Thanks for your reply
