went to doc yesterday oct 10,2019 had ct scan for low dose cancer screening well he tells me i have a spt r ndule n right lung so now im crapping pants so my question to you wise folks is what percentage of these nodules ARE CANCEROUS HE SAID SEE YOU IN THREE MONTHS FOR ANOTHER CT SCAN I DO HAVE SLIGHT SINUS INFECTION AND OXYGEN WAS 95% I STILL WALK WITH NO WHEEZING OR SOB SHORTNESSS OF BREATH SO WHAT DO DOCS LOOK FOR
TO SEE IF IT IS GROWING OR WHAT?
Whoa, slow down. I truly understand your feelings and you have my full empathy, I have been in the same position and in possession of the tee-shirt.
1) Yes, they will wait for three months to see if it grows.
2) If it has grown then a PET/CT San will be ordered. PET stands for Positron Emissions Test. Where you will be given a radioactive isotope of glucose injection and have lie and rest for 30/60 minutes for it to be taken up through your body. You will then have a full body scan in a "doughnut machine" very similar to a CT Scanner, it will take approx 30 mins to do this.(remeber it will be a full body scan, not just your chest) You will then be able to return home with no side effects other than to say away from young children and pregnant women for 24 hours as you will still be slightly radioactive.
3) You will have a follow up appointment to discuus the results of the PET Scan, any bright areas will light up any malignant tumours, dark areas indicate benign (harmless) nodules.
4) Most nodules are in fact benign thousands of people have the without knowing. I myself have a dozen of the little blighters. If and it's a big IF it does turn out malignant (cancerous) all is not lost at all, it has been picked up very early and has the best chance to be cured. There are various treatments available to you which will all be explained fully to you Surgery, Chemoterapy, Radiotherapy and Immunotherapy, or even a combination of them.
5) You may have a biopsy performed to determine the type of cancer to determine the best treatment.
6) I was one of the unlucky ones, not only did I have a malignant tumour they could not perform a biopsy so diadgnosis was performed by radiology, which was not a bad thing. I received SABR Radiotherapy 18 months ago and so far so good with great prospects of being cured and declared cancer free eventually.
Of course you are entitled to worry yourself into being sick with it, but be realistic no amount of worry will change a thing, neither will it alter any outcome. The best advice that I can give is to breathe a big sigh of relief it has been caught whilst it can be actually cured and not too late. Wishing you well with all the calming thoughts I can muster.
Hi 2greys I too have a nodule on my lung which was picked up 3 months ago when I had act scan was told then I would be having another scan in 3 months time had that a couple of weeks ago and then received a letter to see the consultant on Tuesday I am worried about the outcome but after reading your answer to homegirl I feel so much more positive so thank you chalky2 Pauline
In my experience, if it was bad news you would have had a more urgent appointment arranged, by phone even.
Hi 2 greys thank you for your reply I did have a phone call but unfortunately I missed it and they left a message but I missed that too I got a letter in the post the next day at 11am to be there at 11 10am so I phoned up to explain and I had a date for the 15 th which is this coming Tuesday so now I am worried again chalky 2 Pauline
I do not have such a concise and informative answer but I too was diagnosed with a few nodules that had increased in size and one was mildly spiculated.
I listened to the voice of reason [gentleman above] and tried to calm my increasing fears because bottom line, worry does not change anything it just wears you down. A follow up CT scan showed mine had all shrunk in size so slow up that negative thinking, it may not be justified and please be kind to yourself

what causes them and what is isotope?
Lot discover the remains of infection bacteria or fungus usally immune response builds cells round em that’s what calcified nodules are active ones are more translucent.
Isotope is like other poster says but missed important bit about If diabetic and sugers not managed properly THEN it’s not as straight forward
A silly comment, the amount of glucose in the isotope is 5 micrograms, not enough to cause problems. You have no experience of lung cancer. Point scoring whilst I'm away will not work.

But that is why you are told no sugar no coffee and high starch meals 24 hours before hand. Ignore it at one's own peril and has to be rescheduled. Highlights once more you have no experience at all.
