To Vittorio & Everyone, really.... I have never left the U.S. Continent,. Really..never! We traveled often, but not outside the states. I don't know about how our $ equate to the same amount, or even what others' money is called. Educate me some, if you don't mind. J

I am sorry to hijack your post vittorio , but I really know nothing about war syringing. But I am curious to ask jmsutt73 a question. In fact I was just talking to someone about this yesterday, the fact the Americans rarely travel outside America or even outside their home state. We were wondering why such a low percentage of Americans travel abroad. Maybe you could educate me?

In the U.K. the currency is called the pound ( £ ) 1 British pound is equivalent to about US $1.22 so £85.00 would be ...$103.79. I don't know what ear syringing is for it what it entails but that is pretty expensive!! 😳😬 xx

Hi Caspiana, I have never really thought about "why' few folks here travel abroad. My husband was USMC before we married, and he did, for four years Greece, Lebenon (action in late 50's) Etc... I tease him that he met the Oracle at Delphi and didn't know who it was. Our daughter was born with Down syndrome when I was 23, with heart issues that prevented us from traveling far from her doctors. We had a wonderful life, and we did a lot of traveling in this country. Many of our younger friends have recently vacationed in Europe, Barcelona, Italy, Provence area., so hopefully in the future. Our daughter-in-law's mother and dad, both doctors, immigrated here from the Phillipines when she was two, so travel is just part of their life. Thanks for the info about $ to pounds. J

I know this isn't my thread but I have to chime in! I haven't traveled abroad in a long time. In the US we do not get the same amount of time off of work so maybe that's a deterrent? Also, the US is really a huge country. My family has been to New Orleans and Maine this year. We live in Chicago, so New Orleans was 13 hours away and Maine was 21 hours away. We plan on going to France in a couple years when the children are old enough to remember/appreciate the trip. My heart is torn while I write this because the BLM is such a source of support so we should probably visit the UK instead, but I just have too much of a romanticized idea of Paris. Come visit us!

Sarah

PS I am going to have surgery on Thursday so stay tuned for a report!

Hello Sarah, 👋

Somehow I missed this reply. 😕 I'm sorry I'm so late. Yes, I understand that it seems like residents in Europe get long holidays especially over summer. Us Japanese will gladly take a ridiculous expensive trip to Europe lasting five days since we also don't get long holidays. But "compact" is what the Japanese are good at. You could always pop over to the UK when you visit Paris. The Eurostar is fairly efficient and it only takes two hours. 😁 🚆

I'm sorry to read that you need surgery. I will wait for your update and hope that it is nothing serious. Take good care of yourself.

I used to need my ears done via my Practice nurse and then found if I put olive oil drops in them daily for a week (making me hard of hearing) I could then insert warm water via a squeezy plastic bottle which did the trick of releasing the wax. I certainly wouldn’t pay £40 to have them done

I went to the nurse at my surgery last week for a B12 and Flu injections and mentioned that my ears needed looking at. - she looked and said you need them syringed - use olive oil for a week and then come back to have them done !! I go back today - so it does depend on your doctors surgery !!!

Its a disgrace that the gp surgery doesn't provide this service, you can damage your ear drum if not done properly, for goodness sake this isnt something that needs cutting back on, what is our country coming to x

I'm really surprised your GP. surgery does not offer this. Have never needed it myself but in my part of Scotland it's given free of charge, and done by a practise nurse.

Would also say was shocked to hear that you pay for all prescriptions in England. This seems very unfair and unreasonable when Scottish and Welsh patients get it at no charge.( Although with Scotland 5+ million and Wales 3+ million it is all to do with numbers.).

The U.K. NHS should be equal with either everyone paying or no-one paying.

Strange that you post in block capitals which is tantamount to SHOUTING. Perhaps we should all have our ears syringed ?
