How much are you polluting your office air just by existing?

Just by breathing or wearing deodorant, you have more influence over your office space than you might think, a growing body of evidence shows. But could these basic acts of existence also be polluting the air in the office room where you work?

To find out, a team of engineers at Purdue University has been conducting one of the largest studies of its kind in the office spaces of a building rigged with thousands of sensors. The goal is to identify all types of indoor air contaminants and recommend ways to control them through how a building is designed and operated.

Sounds like interesting research.

Makes you wonder what is happening in a classroom - particularly when they start to wear deodorants and perfume.

Exactly why I posted this, It is not just offices, it is valid for lots of buildings. Not forgetting residential care and nursing homes, that are very often in converted domestic housing, full of frail or elderly folk.

My air filter/fan monitors the quality of the air in my bedroom ....and when I am in it with the door shut the air quality gets worse.

When the window is open the air quality is better.

Makes me wonder about all the ways we have sealed up our homes and workplaces to try and preserve energy without providing adequate ventilation.

My late father was an architect, many years ago, and he always worked in collaboration with a heating and ventilation engineer.

Vital research, for those of us sensitive to indoor atmospheres especially. Hope we get some improvements sign posted.

Thanks for your research, 2greys. Isn’t your sailing holiday coming up soon?? Bon voyage!

Hi, yes just 8 days to go. A lot of packing to do, as it was all put away at the end of the last one. But after a moderately successful sail back in May and a favorable report from the Oncologist in August, I decided to make the leap and do it all again. My next Oncology appointment is in February, if all remains good, then I am making tentative plans to go again, with the whole family this time next summer; after my grandson's exams, he will be 16 then and with my son's help, we will be able to have a much larger yacht.

I thought you’d said October for the next venture onto the Broads. Sounds a real treat, if quite strenuous!

I really hope next summer’s plans hold too. Sounds like a great family adventure to look forward to ⛵️⛵️⛵️
