Hi everyone

I may finally have an answer as to why I can never take a deep breath. It seems I have diaphragmatic paralysis- right side

Has anyone here got any experience of this? I'm getting worse almost by the day and apart from a referral to the chest clinic (waiting time approx 128 days), not really had much help from doctors.

Grateful for any help or advice from you guys

💜

Hi Susiedee. I have a friend who had this. As she does not have a lung condition it took ages to find out why she could not take a full breath. It was an osteopath who finally found that her diaphragm was frozen in a kind of spasm. He worked on it. It loosened up and she only goes back if she feels that it is beginning to happen again. I hope that might be useful.

Thank you, that is useful. I wasn't sure what the treatment might be. I know there is a surgical procedure but was hoping there might be another avenue I could pursue instead. I'll see what I can find out. Thanks again 💜

Thanks, I'll do that. The CT scan that led to the diagnosis was instigated by the hospital and they said I will be fast tracked but I don't know how fast that makes it with an overstretched NHS. I will take you advice. 💜

I have a problem with being able to take deep breaths and had several visits to lung specialists but no diagnosis except that have labelled it COPD but I have made my own diagnosis - I was 5'1" and now 4'9" so loss of 4 " in height and this has resulted in several compression fractures - but no doctor has seen the significance of this on my stomach and lungs !! I think my internal organs are all compacted and this affects my digestion - breathing and bowels so nothing works properly anymore - no appetite - can only eat very small meals so without fuel I am constantly tired - how do others cope with this problem ?

I was helped by an osteopath for this too. He showed me how to release the tension when it builds, by tucking my fingers up under my ribs - best to be shown by someone who knows before you try it yourself.
