I’ve used Saga travel insurance in the past however due to an undiagnosed shoulder problem they won’t insure me. I have a scan in two weeks but I’m worried that I won’t get insurance as I also am moderate COPD - any ideas

I used insurefor for the first time this year , I usually used M&S and was charged 68 quid even with my copd , I checked other sites and found insurefor who only charged 28 quid for my illness luggage insured and flight , get a quote online it might save you a few quid .

Oh gosh you’ve been really helpful. I’m thinking I need to get my shoulder diagnosis done as if you’re waiting to be diagnosed regardless of having copd they won’t insure. I’ll go online and check thanks

Hi pepparuby1 I have asthma, bronchiectasis, epilepsy and several other ailments. I use Staysure for travel insurance. I can list 7 ailments, the 3 mentioned the main ones but have never had a problem getting it. Might be worth giving them a try..

Good luck

Susan I was quoted 128 with no cover for ailments including copd for 12 months with avanti. I then went into compare the market cheapest for 12 months to cover copd and my tendinitis 245.00 rising to 600 pounds. But at least if you get ill you’re covered?

Hi Susan1200, for travel to France last year, me with all ailments and hubby with none, just over £100-110. This year went by ferry and they offered me 15% discount, £61.20.

Susan1200 profile image
Susan1200 in reply to Patchpoppy2

The only advice I can give anyone his shop around get the best quote then when it’s give ask about a multi cover this is for 12 months and cuts the costs down a great deal

Eg I was quoted £1250 for a 10 day holiday to Majorca last year bearing in mind I need oxygen to fly 2ltrs I’m on Ambiglatury Oxygen

I asked about a Multi cover they quoted me £1550 so we purchased this cover with the plan to do 3 holidays in 12 months

Unfortunately we only managed to do because of loosing one of our beloved dogs in December had an holiday booked up we had bought a new puppy but the dog care would not taker her until she was older so we went onto a Cruise in June

I haven’t renewed my policy has yet until we decide when to go away again

I personally think it’s disgusting at some of the quotes plus I was refused by 5 or 6 companies we ended up going with All Clear

Why do we have to pay these big amounts when we are taking all our med and emergency meds with us .

Rant over enjoy your day and good luck 😎

Hi, I have just got insurance with the Post Office, it was the cheapest one I found, I too have COPD, I did a one off with them as I’m not likely to be travelling again any time soon afterwards, it was £56.00 for a week, check it out, spoke to a lovely guy on the phone, Good Luck Lorraine

Hi

I was refused travel insurance by the company with whom I had been with for over 30 years - because of COPD. Needless to say I junked them. Try go.compare.com and you will get lots of quotes - some of which are not entirely unreasonable.

Good luck

Kevin

Will your insurers cover copd?

COPD123491 profile image
COPD123491 in reply to pepparuby1

As stated, my own insurers refused to cover me but several on go.compare.com were able to cover me for COPD together with other health conditions.

How do you know you’re covered? When I went on there I filled in all medical stuff and then the quote came in but no where in document does it say I’m covered specifically for copd? 🤷‍♀️

Susan1200 profile image

That is so unfair considering you have been with the same company for 30 years, they have simply betrayed you,it seems am English thing like the politicians.

I think your undiagnosed shoulder problem and the fact you are waiting for investigation will be the reason you are struggling. I had a company cancel my insurance when I called to own up I was waiting for some treatment. Before I had any diagnosis insure and go were the only company I could find that would insure me. You could try one of the comparison sites that will do the leg work for you or wait until you have a diagnosis. Good luck I’m sure you don’t need all this extra stress.

pepparuby1 profile image
pepparuby1 in reply to Mooka

Thank you. Yes I was waiting on nhs scan for both shoulders dr seemed to think tendinitis but as the tablets didn’t work I was referred to a scan. I always )with a struggle) got copd insurance with part of saga however with this undiagnosed situation made me panic. I’m not flying till end of November so the scan is two weeks time so should know!

Travel insurance is a nightmare and the cost is crazy on some sites, hope you find one that is right for you.

Can I ask what type of scan you are waiting for? I am asking as I too am waiting for a decision on my shoulder but cant have an mri scan as I am too claustrophobic, thank you x

pepparuby1 profile image
pepparuby1 in reply to Izb1

I don’t know! I wasn’t told it was MRI though. So I doubt it maybe just X-ray or something. I’ve been waiting through nhs for 6 weeks and finally got appointment- almost went private to speed the process as my private insurance won’t cover me because I was too honest by saying I think it started January but I didn’t take insurance out till April.

Off subject Private health won’t insure me for copd!!! Shocking really

Ultrasound sorry I forgot

Izb1 profile image

Thanks pepparuby1, I have torn the tendon in my shoulder so perhaps that is the difference. They could offer me an open scanner but as i am nhs they wont finance it. I should have had the op last year but backed out as it seemed to get better and its a long recovery and couldnt cope on my own x

pepparuby1 profile image
pepparuby1 in reply to Izb1

yes funny that, my arms started to feel better ( apparently its not to do with my arms its my shoulder according to dr) and i had some massage and it felt better, i even started yoga, but last week it started up again - so annoying

I used saga cruise insurance for years. Saga insurance was not good but on the saga cruises their insurance is.. First Lakes? ? I have used that without problem many times until 2017. I havent been able to consider a holiday since for various reasons but would recommend the included travel. insurance again having claimed once for urinary infection an.d later an exaberration of bronchectasis. No problem

I tnink your problem is that you are awaiting diagnosis.

Good luck with that and enjoy your holiday

Very interesting as I’m awaiting an mri scan Re my neck/shoulder. I wouldn’t be able to answer any insurance questions at the moment. I’ve personally found all clear a decent holiday insurer for peeps with medical conditions. Good luck with the shoulder and insurance.

I use the post office,I buy the annual year one , it's definitely cheaper than if you want insurance for 1 week or 10days .

I now pay $300 per year.one insurance offered me 80pound for 8 days no it's not worth it

pepparuby1 profile image
pepparuby1 in reply to Susan1200

Thank you. I saw the post office on compare and wondered if any cover copd I did fill form in online about medical conditions but it doesn’t say I’m covered I’m assuming I am as the difference between on at 129.00 not covered with Avanti and post office I must be?

Susan1200 profile image
Susan1200

Hi pepparuby1,I did my insurance with the post office over the phone,no problem when I told him that I have COPD ,I pay more because of my age ,for me they are by far the cheapest all the others are around £400 to £700 it's a total rip off, they know they can charge what they want.

All the very best care.
