Attachment bonds between domestic cats and humans.

Cats have a reputation for being aloof and independent. But a study of the way domestic cats respond to their caregivers suggests that their socio-cognitive abilities and the depth of their human attachments have been underestimated.

Somehow i think i would become securely attached to my caregiver if they fed me regularly, gave me regular presents and cleaned up my poo.More rocket science from people who should get a proper job instead of telling us what we already know.

Best wishes from a Cat slave and his manipulative house trashing friend who is obviously neurotic but i guess that's another study. :)

Probably you are right , as a cat lover/owner. Maybe not so obvious to those that are not. I can say the same about parrots but not everybody would know that either.

I still feel these people could put their skills to far better uses ,if we humanise our pets or rescue animals it is only reasonable to assume that they will act similarly as i presume your parrot does.i am somewhat disturbed that Scruffy hasn't taken onboard my anti social behaviour, still time yet to turn her into a tiger. :)

"I still feel these people could put their skills to far better uses"

The truth is that people tend to do what they like and be interested in. I like my work as is and have done it for 40 years, I would not entertain being something I did not like doing, especially for that long.

I meant people with a science based skill, perhaps these peoples skills would have been better utilised in the study of Autism or ADHD and similar studies and they could do the cats in their spare time.

Aah, that ever elusive perfect world :) Off to pub now for some well earned weekly socialising. It has been a long week.

All very interesting. All I know is my cat hated me as a kitten and was very insecure and bad tempered but has grown into a nice cat who likes me now and is affectionate. I had to show him I was in charge otherwise he would have remained a monster! ;) x

Wish you could have taken over my daughters cat Hypercat, she has always been a monster. She was an abondoned feral kitten and has remained so, she bites scratches and jumps on you when least expected, they have had her for 5 years or so and brought her back from Tenerife, she behaves a little better with my daughter but still an anti social cat x

Many many, moons ago I lived in an HMO and one of the residents had this enormous black cat called "Tiger" and he would hide in the bushes, walk up the drive and he would jump out and pounce on your leg not so funny for girls with skirts but wearing thick Levi jeans it was not too bad. Tiger by name and tiger in nature.

My friend( who lives in Spain) has a cat who hates me!! It usually sleeps in the spare room and gets turfed out when I visit because the hair irritates my chest. It does everything it can to annoy me including being sick outside my bedroom door! It stalks about the place giving me the"death stare)!! It jumps on her knee when we are watching TV but with me it prowls round the back of my neck making me nervous! Oh yes,we way underestimate them. I always felt like it was plotting my death!

She also has a dog and an African Grey parrot. Max the Parrot had an amazing vocabulary an often said things that appeared in context. He never shuts up!!

This is a link to a recording I did of him.I had to set my camera up an disappear into the kitchen otherwise he would clam up. You can hear him calling to me (Sheila) and telling the dog to stop scratching! He makes all the noises on this clip.He says"see you soon" in a friend's deep voice ,mimics a telephone call. My friend has quite a broad Sheffield accent,he has that off to a tee!! You will hear"Im just goin' t'toilet!!

Enjoy!

I had to go upstairs to get my Cinders who sat on my shoulder and watched Max perform after going to YouTube to get it in full screen :) She loves watching other Greys on You tube. So did my male (now passed away) I have lost a few monitors over the years with him jumping at the screen and damaging them. Thank you for sharing :)

I feel cats will always be attached to the caregiver as long as they are being fed what they want to eat, watered and generally allowed to socialise (or not ) when THEY want.

Cats are born with a certain personality trait I think but unless they are particularly timid I fear would not be faithful and dump you if enticed by anyone with better ...... err FOOD🙄
