Nodules - silent reflux

Hi there has anyone any experience of silent reflux and the impact it can have on your lung?

First CT scan showed nodules And fluid

Second CT scan showed nodules reducing in size and fluid gone

I’m due another scan in October to look for changes from 2nd scan -very worried

I have since been told I have a silent reflux and I am wondering could this potentially be connected to my lung issues!!!

Hello, I take medication Omaprazole for reflux. I have been on them for about 6 years. When my bronchiectasis consultant realized I was on them he said to continue with them. I assume he felt it would be helpful to my lung problems too. I am hoping other members here will be able to offer their experience to you. We are all in the same boat with slightly different problems.

I suffer with reflux and I have to take Omaprazole all the time, I have had bronchiectasis all my life and reflux only started a year ago when it was found I had a hiatus hernia, my consultant told me that it was nothing to do with my lung problems.

The hydrochloric acid fumes of reflux from the stomach can get into the lungs and cause damage to the delicate cells. That's why it's important to control it when you have lung disease, and to avoid foods that cause reflux (often high fat and/or spicy foods) and to avoid eating too close to bedtime - if you have to eat late at night, try to sleep with your upper body higher than your stomach.

Nodules can be caused my different things but the fact that they have shrunk is certainly good news. Silent reflux can certainly cause up issues with your lungs so as others have mentioned you need to get it under control. The fact that the second scan showed improvement to both the fluid and the nodules should make you feel better. Hopefully the third scan will show further improvement. Let us know how it goes.
