Radiation to the chest (the mediastinal region)?

Has anyone had radiation to the chest area? Specifically the mediastinal region?

My radiation oncologist is going to do hypofractionated (which is a shorter course of radiation) course of radiotheraphy

My questions are:

1) have you had any side effects

2) was the radiation treatment successful

3) To complicate the treatment I have a PACEMAKER.

4) If anyone has a pacemaker, were you warned of any problems re the radiation?

My treatment will be 15 sessions in 3 weeks.

Thank you very much and good health to you all. Mike

Hi, I have seen you have had some info via the Roy Castle forum.

I have/had NSCLC. Diagnosed T1b NO MO left apical early lung cancer.

As a patient can answer some of your questions not covered in that PDF file.

I was given SABR treatment, 60Gy in 5 fractions over two weeks completed on 2nd May '18.

1) have you had any side effects? - Very minimal, I had some radiation induced inflammation, treated with steroids. Very slight scarring and no fatigue at all

2) was the radiation treatment successful? - So far, so good, the tumour had shrunk after 6 months and has remained that way since. My Oncologist said this last year " With caution, I think we have cured you". My next follow up is on the 14th Feb '20

I do not have a pacemaker so unable to answer that one.

Best wishes and good luck. Do not worry, it is your team's job to do the worrying, also worrying is not going to help one bit or affect your outcome. Easy to say, not quite so easy to do.
