Oxygen levels

Hi guys and girls , hope your all doing well , I am struggling so much just now with oxygen levels dropping to 72 even if it’s just simple things I’m doing ie washing the dishes but when I get tested on a treadmill my oxygen is 90 but I struggle to walk on flat ground 15 paces and I’m so out of breath.. being referred back to rehab for them to check but my lungs feel like they are going to burst my fev1 is 22% and also have partial lung collapse since Dec have asthma copd and beginning of bronchitis has anyone else had this ? When I’m just sitting I’m steady 90 . I have looked down route of getting mobility scooter for being out walks or supermarkets shopping centres but my family are going crazy at me saying no you will loose what you have left but I’m struggling so much 😢

It's so important to get out and about, not only for the fresh air benefit but for the mental benefit as well. If going out is purgatory for you then that is not good for you and could result in you going out less and less. Tell your family to mind their own business, you know what you are doing and will use it sensibly.

They are just not listening just wish they could feel how I feel for 10 mins maybe understand more ..

It's not going to happen. Put your foot down, tell them how up-setting it is for you when they imply that you are a wimp, lacking in determination to maintain your mobility. Then go and buy one.

Yes!!! I have a small 3 wheel mobility scooter” that I got from QVC for $650.00 over 1 1/2 ago and it has certainly freed me up n given me a new lease on life. I’m out on it scootering around everyday shopping, browsing, etc. I use it for traveling outside. I walk short distance and use oxygen only in my house.

Btw, I am 75 n have 4th stage COPD w Asthma and was diagnosed in 2004.

Hi Amanda3011 sounds like mine drop to 74 if I do short walk with out my oxygen resting with oxygen 90-92

It was me who fought against a mobility scooter my family saying it would make life easier. Well I've had mine for five years best thing I've ever had

I was told lack of oxygen in the blood will cause weekness in the joints best of luck

Ahh okay thank you I think they feel if I’m not pushing my lungs I will decline more but it’s such a struggle now

Hi, Dilly2,

My wife's sats drop to the 70s when moving around. The consultant said to use oxygen whilst moving around our home. The respiratory nurse says have it when you need it. As an onlooker I wish she would do what the consultant says. When shopping she always uses a trolley for support.

Hi

Exercise is important, but it can done in the privacy of you home.

When out and about use what ever mobility aid you can.

Why struggle with shopping or a trip out, when you can deprive some pleasure by using a mobility scooter. Plus the extra freedom less reliant on others.

I exercise at home, but outdoors mobility scooter, you can have conversations without being to breathless, coffee mornings, allows you be more sociable.

And you can still exercise at home in your own time.

Really like your reply stone it makes sense. Without my mobility scooter shopping would be unbearable I would have stopped going out a long time ago

As it is I Wiz of leaving my poor husband breathless trying to keep up and his as fit as a butcher's dog

You are living with your illness, your family aren't. Do whatever is best for you and, as others have said, you can exercise at home when you feel able to but get out easily with a mobility scooter. Getting out is just as important for mental wellbeing and being stuck indoors does no good at all.

Thank you will maybe see if rehab can do me a letter to explain to my family cos they don’t believe I should be using mobility aids xx

You seem very concerned about what your family think which is understandable but only you know how you feel and how much of a struggle some things are for you. I hope that you come to some solution that helps you. Best wishes xx

Thank you my eldest used to work with care sector so is all about promoting independence which I can fully understand but she doesn’t fully understand my condition she just says I get that when I argue with her but still goes ballistic with me when I say I need a scooter .. I went on holiday recently and couldn’t go anywhere all the shops were on a hill and I had to stay in caravan as I even struggled to walk into the clubhouse as it was either steps or a slope by time I got in I thought I was going to keel over .. so only went twice , beautiful beach couldn’t get to it again down steep slope .. so my holiday was spent stuck in caravan ! 😢

You know your own body best so do what you think is right for you. Give your family a straw and tell them to breathe through it. Then get them walking and they will have some idea how difficult it is for you. x

Thank you Sallyseashore .. im only 58 had copd since 45 stopped smoking but having severe asthma has been major decline recently in copd now end stage but still trying to keep going but having this ongoing battle with my daughter !

same as me going just started on rehab was the quickest there then couldnt breath got told to pace myself

I went to rehab and did okay but last year I have just rapidly declined .. every other week steroids antibiotics but daughter thinks I’m not doing enough I’m trying to do housework etc but struggling took me 4 hrs just to do dishes , sweep kitchen floor and 3 loads washing just found it all exhausting just finding it all too much now
