A lot of you post pictures of your pets so here goes, please don't get upset. These are my two shih tsus, Jassy on the left and Honey on the right. They were both rescue dogs and died within a fortnight of one another in August. Jassy was 15, nearly blind and developed digestive problems, Honey was 13, had heart failure and deteriorated suddenly a fortnight later. My husband and I would dearly love another dog and look at local rescue sites daily but so far no luck, we are both over 70 which is the RSPCA cut off point even though they are crying out for people to adopt their rescued animals! I didn't know there's an age limit on adopting a rescue animal! Is there another organisation you can ask, like Cats Protection re-home cats, maybe there's an equivalent for dogs? I am sorry to know you lost your companions, they leave a terrible void in our lives.
Awww they look gorgeous, so sorry for your loss. So sad that you’re finding it difficult to be able to re-home, as there are so many just waiting for a loving home, it’s ridiculous.

So sweet. What a fabulous life you gave to them. I am sure that there is some rescue organisation which would be too happy to find a lovely home for a dog with you. Maybe an older little soul whose owner has passed on and they need comfort and love.
Thank you all for your comments, there are a few more rescues close to us. I check their websites daily. Even though we have had dogs for years we now have to get a letter of permission to show when we apply for a dog and the council wheels grind exceedingly slow! x
I feel for you Carole. Had no idea there was a cut-off point and 70 is actually quite young these days.
Have you tried the Dogs Trust? They are a huge dog charity and I think national - Ive had dealings with them in London and Kent. And there are often local dog shelters who are looking to rehome. Hope you find
I know how you must be feeling as only recently had to have my pet cat put to sleep. She was 22. It is particularly sad that you lost the two of your little dogs within such a short time of each other. I still look for Tiggi when I arrive home as she would be behind the front door waiting to greet me. I am trying to reflect on the lovely memories I have and so will you. It will be with such sadness to begin with but eventually you will be able to smile again when you see photos of them. I say this from experience as I am an animal lover and have had all kinds of animals over the years.
One point I would like to make is you probably got some exercise each day while walking them. Taking a dog for a walk can also be sociable as you meet other people. I don't know if you have an active social life but take care that you don't fall in to the trap of not going out because you now don't need to. A change of scenery combined with a little does wonders for me.
Can I also mention how wonderful people like yourself are to have rescue dogs. You have given love and care to two needy little creatures and was rewarded with love and affection for many years. Take care Carol and let us know how you are and how you are coping with your loss.
I used to know a lady with a mobility scooter and 2 Yorkshire Terriers, when out for a walk, it looked as though they were pulling the scooter. She started saying "mush mush" when wanted to get them going again. Good luck with the re-homing.
Poodle rescue maybe able to let you have one of their dogs which cannot be rehomed because of age. They are very stringent but they love the dogs so much they may put a loving home before age. Judging by my local park the average age of dog owners is a lot more than 70. Also most people over 70 can provide a great experience for an elderly animal as they are far more likely to be at home a great deal of the day. RSPCA needs to revise the policy having regard to the much better health of 70+ nowadays.
I agree. They could be had up for ageism, though I can understand why they might have the rule. But there are some very fit people over 70 and some very unfit under: surely common sense would be better than such a strict cut-off point.
So sorry you have lost your lovely dogs have you tried the dogs trust ? My sister is 72 and she has just rehomed a 3 year old cocker little girl called CoCo they like you had lost their older dog and the home was to quiet without a dog. Feel sure their is a dog just waiting for someone like you. Best Luck hope you have the patter of 4 paws soon xx
I think it is wrong to put an age limit on getting a dog or cat. Having had dogs and cats all my life 6 border collies 4 cats ( this was in my younger days). Now I have two furry babies. I could not imagine life with out them they are the ones that keep me going. I do hope you will find your soulmate soon. Let us know how you go.
Gorgeous Carole- losing a pet is a wrench . I still miss my Sam (GSD) who died 5 years ago . We thought of replacing him by fostering dogs which maybe a better option when we are older. x

My sister in law just rescued two Shih Tzu/Lhasa Also puppies they are so cute and chew everything. Of course, they are loved, and already being spoiled. I have not replaced my dog that went to the Rainbow Garden in 2004...She was my heart...xx
