Gold-based molecules that target cancer cells and leave healthy cells unharmed — a step towards precision cancer drugs with fewer toxic side effects. Researchers have engineered gold-based molecules that target cancer cells and leave healthy cells unharmed, in a critical step towards precision cancer drugs with fewer toxic side effects.

Pre-clinical studies have shown the molecules were up to 24 times more effective at killing cancer cells than the widely used anti-cancer drug cisplatin and were also better at inhibiting tumour growth.

Are there any trials for this in England. My brother has terminal camcer. It has spread through his body. He is 57 and don't know if he will reach 58. I would do anything if I can find a drug to help him.

Unfortunately the treatment has yet to reach the stage of trials, hopefully soon. I do not know whether any trials also get conducted in the UK: "The research team has completed successful in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical studies and is seeking funding to support the next stage of the research – clinical studies and regulatory approval."

Professor Suresh Bhargava is the team leader, you might try to email him for an answer to that: suresh.bhargava@rmit.edu.au
