Hi Everyone...

I wanted to share with you an update on my mums transplant listing 2 weeks ago we were devastated to be placed on hold on the list after Papworth team determined that my mother was too weak for surgery during review, yesterday we feared the worst but actually they placed mum back on the list with a review in 6 weeks again.... so pleased to be back on the list ... to illustrate our journey so far ...

Key Transplant Dates

6th and 7th August right heart catheterisation before transplant referral can proceed- results are good

10th August 18 - referral sent to Royal Papworth Hospital for transplant assessment

22nd October Initial Appointment for transplant - good candidate for assessment

3rd and 4th December - Transplant Assessment days - good candidate for transplant requires Angiogram before listing

25th January 19 - Angiogram completed

26th Feb 19 signed papers to be on the transplant list

22nd March 19 - listed for transplant

July 19 suspended from the list for a week due to infection

August 19 suspended from the list between 16th August 19 to 30th August 19 due to infection

31st August back on the transplant list to be reviewed in 6 weeks

Hoping for the best ....

Happy Saturday everyone!

Hi my mum was on the list at Birmingham but the last visit she had there she appeared to have picked up a germ and got an infection. She has to gain weight and try to get her strength back in order to go back on. Do you mind me asking if your mum is walking as well as she was before? The last 2 chest infections my mum has had have really knocked her strength but fingers crossed she will get back to how she was, she’s very determined and amazingly strong mentally -much more than me thank goodness!

It was the walking they were most concerned about so that’s what we focused on rather then pulmonary rehab ... we did walking down the stairs and if we were out shopping mum would walk one isle then rest to build up ...

This may sound mad but despite being very weak prior to transplant, I made myself do exercises to gain strength back, twice a week pulmonary rehab, dragging my oxygen around, it was so hard but I know it helped me mentally and physically after transplant. I hope your Mum does well and I was 65 for my transplant at Wythenshawe.

Ross that’s very encouraging my mother previously was an aerobics instructor and personal trainer she normally is the one pushing us all to exercise! We are now going back to muscular strength exercises she knows will help her at home every day and the rehab at the hospital twice a week

Thats wonderful, and its also the main reason I got onto the list, will all be worth it for her. Take care and good luck.
