Days of the week.

Monday, Tuesday Wednesday

All days have a name

But when you become quite elderly

They all become the same

Monday was the wash day

Glad when that was done

Tuesday half-day closing

Make sure your shopping's done

Wednesday was a blandish day

I suppose it was all right

Thursday a bit better

Now the weekend is in sight

Friday, that was pay day

It was handed out in cash

After that you could hardly wait

To start the homeward dash

Saturdays they were lovely days

The nights not to be missed

When you went out with your mates

And probably all got pi**ed

Sundays they were sombre days

When everywhere was closed

Mostly people went to church

Or stayed at home and dozed.

Now there's not much difference

You only need the date

That is when your appointment is

And you push off there to wait.

Such great memories Don. Wednesday was half day where I lived but otherwise much as you described. Thank you xxx 😀😘

Some nearby areas had half day on Wednesday which seemed more sensible to me. x😍

True Don. I often have to ask what day it is as they all mull into one x

in reply to watergazer

I brought a new watch specifically with the day of the week showing but I rarely refer to it now. It just doesn’t matter any more.

Oh Don them were the days. My dad had a double fronted shop, no glass in the windows and shutters were put up at night. I had to get married on a Wednesday afternoon as that was half day closing. Jane

Oh Don

You sound sad in your rhyme today.

Hope today is a good day for you. Your rhymes brighten our days and why wait til Saturday to enjoy a few drinks.

Love to you and Midge

Corin

No, no, I'm not at all sad. Just reflecting on how things have changed, most for the better in my view. We have more choice now, specially on Sundays. 😉 Don & Midge xx

In those long gone days in my first job Thursday was our half day, did not get much pay to be able to get drunk. So Sunday was about getting ready for back to work Monday. My treat was a trip to the pictures with my left over pay after mum had my board money. But she did do all my washing and ironing in return for me babysitting my sister. I get weeks now when Wednesday is the only day I go out (lunch with my freinds) Then other weeks I only have Sunday at home. They say variety is the spice of life. Enjoy the sun while you can.

There's so much we are able to do at home now or in my case the campervan. For example by using the free software calibre-ebook.com I have 1378 books in my personal library to take everywhere with me. 😁 Remarkable!

When every day is just the same and doesn't have a name

You know you're getting older and that really is a shame

You slowly gather thoughts when you tumble from your bed

What day is it you wonder whilst trying to clear your head

When no one cares to visit and you reach for another pill

You also realise that you lost most friends because of getting ill

But our Master Po is very wise and his thoughts we should digest

And regardless of what we call it we will try to do our best... :) x

Bravo! 👏👏 Very well done young Skis, apart from the pessimism. 🙄

I write for my friends Janet who write back to me. What would I be doing with a book? 🤷‍♂️

Sunday was polishing shoes and ironing clothes for the next weeks work, also any mending that might need doing, such as sewing on loose/lost buttons (I learnt how to darn socks, patch small holes and turn collars and cuffs to make shirts last longer). Could be a very busy day.

I was just taking out the pills from the Sunday morning compartment of my pill organiser and thought, It's pill day. Time to refill it all. Somewhere along the line Sunday has become Pill Day 🤔

in reply to HungryHufflepuff

Funny you should mention this. A couple of weeks ago my Sunday box still had my evening pills in and I went and filled the other six not realising that I only had six boxes not seven. So confusion reigned the following Saturday night when I had no pills in Sundays box. So Saturday became Pill Day instead of Sunday and I am not happy. I'm not sure I can build up enough courage to try and change back to Sunday. Getting it wrong and having Pill Day on a week day doesn't bear thinking about.😯

Oh my goodness I'm confused just reading about it! It's a bit like the calendars where some have Monday as the first day of the week and some have Sunday as the first day of the week. If you're looking at the wrong one you end up with the wrong date. Or the calendars that put the last days of the month at the beginning of the month which really confused me. Until recently I assumed it was showing the end of the previous month's days but it's the end of the month at the start, I imagine it saves printing an extra line but I prefer my dates to be in order, life is confusing enough as it is!
