Maybe the effects of the hydrocortisone injection have worn off ....were you given any steroid tablets as well as the antibiotics?

I would get professional advice as soon as you can and tell them you that you feel worse.

Take care .

Hi Abidul. I have been reading your pists and it is obvious that the doctors who are treating you are grasping at straws in the dark. They should have been testing your sputum to find out which bacteria is in there to get the right antibiotic. Also, steroids are not usually given to bronchiectasis patients unless they have asthma or emphysema also. This is because the steroid helos the breathing on a temporary basis but masks the real problem which is the infection in the mucus in the lungs. You are not getting to the point where you can manage your bronch on a daily basis because they are not fully tackling the exacerbation. Also, I think that your other physical problems are preventing you from emptying the mucus from your lungs properly. This allows the bacteria to grow in the mucus and create a worse exacerbation. You probably need some help from a physio to do this and to devise a way for you to do it yourself. I know nothing of the health system in Bangladesh but you need to find a doctor who specialises in bronchiectasis as general respiratory consultants are not fully trained in it and have v little experience of it

I'm sorry that I can't be of more help but hope this may help you to decide on your next step to succesfully managing your bronch.

The doses of antibiotic which you have been given are nowhere near high enough or for a long enough period of time to succesfully tackle a bronchiectasis exacerbation.

Littlepom, i hope you don’t mind me saying, you seem so knowledgeable, i have my spyro on weds, hopefully to give me a diagnosis, as it’s my 1st one. Could i just ask...i have seretide 250 2x a day & Anoro Ellipta 1x a day. (Also ventolin inhaler)I don’t really feel breathless but a tight feeling in my jaw & throat. I wonder whether there are any questions i should be asking??

Vx

Hi Vee. You don't say which condition you think you may be diagnosed with. As you do not mention a ct scan I think you may be expecting copd. I'm afraid that I know very little about that or the medications used for it. There are lots of good folk on here who are very experienced in living with it and hopefully someone will be along to support you.

Hi, thankyou for replying, a Ct scan hasn’t been mentioned to me, so no idea.

When i had my first flare-up & went to urgent care, the nurse thought copd. Some weeks later after a 999 call, the doc treated me for asthma.

Will wait & see on Weds.

The only experience of Azithromycin I have had was as a low dose, daily, medication which i had to stop because it made my stools very loose, which was unpleasant, unhygienic and antisocial. No idea how it behaves as a short term full potency medication. Sorry. Good luck with finding the right regime for you.

Best regards

I take AZITHROMYCIN 500mg 3 days a week for maintenance and it has kept me out of the hospital for a couple years now.

I just increased dosage a couple months ago due to more flare ups from 250 mg to 500mg but been on Arithromycin for at least 10 years. I take probiotics with it daily too.

It works well for me.
