I have had to change the way I cope with my disability. now that I am in my eighties.I am constantly aware that I am on the last lap of the human race. I eat very little but have juice from the blender. I repeat my affirmations 1000 times a day meditate an hour a day sit on the verhanda and watch the squirrels climbing up the trees and listen to the crows. I go out on a Saturday by taxi as I cannot walk very far I am not looking forward to this winter but I am trying my best to prepare myself physically mentaly and emotionaly.Does anyone know where I can purchase battery heated clothing as I will need it when the cold weather comes back.

Do remember a few light weight layers are meant to be warmer than one heavy one, I calculate the temperature, by knowing if I am 1 or up to 4 layers. Was told when young, must wear a hat, as so much heat lost through head (in my case no brain to hold it in) the pull on knitted ones work best for me, wear one in bed if very cold!!

I don’t know about battery heated clothing, although I do believe bomber crews in WW2 had electrically heated sheepskin garments which would be toasty hot. But probably electrocute you as they are so old. And you wouldn’t actually be able to move either probably as so bulky.

And fantastically expensive now but those jackets are fabulous.

Seriously, I just wanted to say that I admire your attitude and determination that I felt in your post. Reminded me of that poem ‘A sad life this, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare....’ and so on. Thanks for that and may your day be a good one.

Hi mbscbpmbscp, food helps to heat our bodies, so if your not eating enough then you wont get properly warm. When my Mum was in her eighties I used to make chicken soups that had everything in them and boiled the bones in the overnight slow cooker to get the stock. She loved these soups as when she didnt feel like eating she could have one of these and felt fed. I put them in portions and froze them so she always had them in. Do you have any family/friends that could help out? Try to eat a little and often to build yourself up. Even banana milkshakes could help. It must be very hard for you being in your eighties with disabilities. Explain all this to the SAFFA they could help out xx
