Reoccurrence of pleurisy

I’ve been diagnosed with pleurisy about 4 weeks ago, not given any advice but pain killer and anti inflammatories, It worked things seemed to get better, however flying from the uk to Mexico has restarted it to lesser effect? Does this make sense?? Also unsure about travelling home in 10 days.

Any advice ideas greatly appreciated!

I am a fit individual no other issues or ailments

How do I get rid of this?

Ouch. I know what it feels like. I too had it recurring in the same area after the 1st diagnosis. - I was prescribed antibiotic and ibruprofen 1st time round (which incidentally resulted in A&E due to gastritis, vomitting & dehydration caused by the ibruprofen). It's very hard on the gut indeed.

I'd recommend not taking the ibruprofen until you're back in Blighty and your near GP unless you have good health insurance in Mexico......of course we're not medics on here . Good luck, P

I should have mentioned that I had two weeks of antibiotics for the 2nd bout of pleurisy. It eventually fades but I don't know how it could fade if you're having to be very active. GP diagnoses it from the sounds from your lungs, pleurisy is a rasping sound from where the pleural membranes rub together. They should be gliding soundlessly. There are different sound for different complaints. Mine felt exactly like broken ribs, very painful . P

Yep it’s very sore, I’ve had all the hospital tests, the version I had didn’t need antibiotics but the cause was not diagnosed?

I’ve been okay last week exercising feeling better but the flight has started it again :( G

Pleurisy is a pretty nasty business and I think you should seek medical help immediately. You could end up with a serious problem if things go wromg.

Good luck, hoping all goes well, J.

The first episode was far worse and seems to be settling. After hospital test I was advised to have pain killer and ibruprofen, I am more concerned about the flight home and possible damaging effects, I’ll seek doctors advice before travelling.

Any other experiences or advice are great thanks!
