FOSTAIR 100/6

First time I saw my Consultant in 3yrs almost 3 weeks ago. He changed my Sirdupla Inhaler to FOSTAIR. My breathing had got worse and developed a cough which I never had before. My anxiety has gone over the top and I have swollen feet today. I have had a few nasty attacks so decided to take my rescue pack of antibiotics and prednisolone thinking,I have a chest infection. After quite a bad day today I decided to read up on side effects of FOSTAIR. I am now thinking this may be the problem as I have quite a few of the symptoms. Has anyone else had problems with FOSTAIR. I have decided not to take it again and speak to my doctor. Don't think it's an infection I have but side effects of FOSTAIR. Sheila

I had awful reaction to fostair. Thought it was just me but I went to the chemist and he said to get to dr ASAP. Predisilone sorted me out , I’d get to your dr and tell him what’s happening 🤞

Yes, Fostair disagrees with me.

But please check with your health professional today, tell them how you feel so that they can listen to your concerns and to your chest etc.

Fostair is the best inhaler I have ever had too - shows we are all different.

We all have different reactions to the inhalers we are prescribed, I was on Fostair for 3 years, I found it fine, now I got anora, it's taken some getting used to but I will see how it goes, call the doc Garshe if it's not working

Hi,

I had cramps with fostair, but I have tried so many over the years none of which seem to do anything when you have mild COPD. I am going to try the Neovent salmeterol or the Atimos Modulite Formoterol next.

I have been taking Sirdupla for 8yrs for severe COPD and it's kept it under control. My Consultant even told me how marvellous I looked with my condition. Don't understand why he changed it to FOSTAIR. I also take Spiriva thank goodness he didn't change that also. Still waiting for my GP to ring me back .phoned 8.30am now 11.40. Obviously doesn't think I am priority even though couldn't string a sentence together talking to receptionist as so breathless. Bring back the good old days when we had family doctors who cared. 😱

I had a terrible reaction to Fostair. According to my pharmacist, its quite normal to feel dizzy, shaky, sick, sweaty, with a fast heart rate, low BP and anxiety for the first month of taking this. I suffered it for 2 weeks but couldn't take it any longer so stopped it. My breathing hasn't been too bad lately so I'm managing without till I next see my respiratory team.

I'd suggest contacting your GP for an alternative.

Good luck.

Had inhaler changed to Fostair by resident pharmacist at GP’s. Developed chest infection/cough 3 times over 3 months & had 3 different antibiotics (progressively stronger) & steroids on 1st & 3rd times. On 3rd dosage, chest cleared. Had annual asthma check soon after & nurse advised using original asthma inhaler & taking my peek flow a.m. & p.m. for a week so she could compare it with same taken the previous month. A definite improvement. Note: l took Fostair for the 3 mths l suffered with the chest infections.

I have only been taking it about 2 weeks and have trouble breathing and serious anxiety causing panic attacks. Can't sleep and feet swollen

Stopped it until I see nurse Wednesday as G,P didn't even speak to me. Disgusting. Sheila.

I've been suffering some serious anxiety - but hadn't related it to the change to Fostair until now? Is it potentially responsible for anxiety and sleeplessness?

garshe profile image
garshe in reply to kydam

Well my anxiety has got really bad since I started FOSTAIR. Also trouble sleeping which is something I never have had a problem with. My GP didn't bother ringing me back .I phoned 8.30am and then called back 4pm.told to see respiratory nurse Wednesday by receptionist. Now have to wait 48hrs. Have stopped Fostair. I'll let you know what happens Wednesday if I don't get hospitalised first.😱 Sheila

I tried Fostair having taken Seretide and it didn't work, even on the maximum dose, so I got switched back to Seretide 250 which is much better for me. Fostair made me feel a bit jittery too. Fostair is cheaper than Seretide and I believe Sirdupla is cheaper than Seretide as it's the generic version, though I'm guessing both are still more expensive than Fostair. Good luck getting back onto it, whenever they try and switch me onto a new inhaler I always make sure I have Seretide left so I can switch back if the new one doesn't work. Can you just ring the doc and ask them to send through a prescription for Sirdupla so you can get back on that in the meantime? Or maybe speak to the pharmacist and see if they can help you with a prescription? I got a Seretide once from the chemist without a script as I'd had them before and they just sorted it with the GP.

I h ave quite a stock of Sirdupla so no problems .Also today had my medication delivered and they sent Sirdupla so haven't changed at Surgery. I have stopped the FOSTAIR and taken Sirdupla. Seeing respiratory nurse Wednesday as GP didn't even speak to me

Only receptionist ever speaks and they are not Doctors. Disgusting.. Still have terrible cough and breathing difficulties roll on Wednesday. Feet back to normal but anxiety really bad. Working hard to control Panic attacks. Talk g my emergency pack also. It's sad but I am diagnosing .myself as GP doesn't bother passes everything on to nurses or pharmacists. What ever happened to the lovely Family Doctors I grew up with. Sheila.

Also I used to be on Seretide don't know why it was changed to Sirdupla as didn't have problems. As you say cost most probably. Thanks for your reply
