You will find out more once you have been to the Respiratory Clinic and seen a consultant.

If you feel that you will not make it (I assume you mean traveling there) then ring your GP and ask for hospital transport to be arranged, do it this afternoon because of the short notice

Thanks for your reply....I am at the feeling sorry for myself stage I think.....not long till the respiratory clinic now and hopefully they will have some answers....pre April when this hit me I was so active but now it takes me all my time to climb a flight of stairs or walk round a shop to pick up some food

Unfortunately there are quite a few of us who suffer in this way. If you are diagnosed with C.O.P.D. then ask to be referred to Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Where you will learn how to manage the condition and tailored exercises, which will really help you. Don't worry about feeling sorry for yourself or scared, we have all been there.

Hello..I had a terrible cough all last winter! I felt miserable! I took so many rounds of antibiotics..nothing would cut it! I felt like I had croup! I asked my Doc to order me a FLUTTER Device. That helped! It felt like I had more room to breathe! I went on my nebulizer 3-4 x a day. I drank lots of water, slept a lot of hours! Finally...the weather warmed up and it FINALLY left me! Thank GOD! I took a lot of Levaquin..I think the 750 cleared it! One a day. I am 68 ...close to your age and I know you can beat this! Hang in there, Baby yourself...sleep lots! and PRAY! Prayers to you! Janet127

My heart goes out to you. I no longer suffer from terrible coughing fits, but there was a time that I did and the only relief I could get was using Delsym cough syrup. I live in the US so I am not sure if it's sold where you are. Also it's important to ask your doctor if it's safe for you to use before you do. Another thing that might help is to sip very hot water, have several cups if necessary. Believe me, I know how debilitating those coughs can be. Please let us know how you are doing. 💛

You're welcome! Keeping Ricola cough drops on hand is a good idea, too.

Hi, I have been prescribed oramorph, for my cough. It works really well for me.

You could ask at your respiratory appointment. Hope this is useful.

Hi there DanceQueen and I agree with Hidden as although I'm not on Oramorph,it's often used to relax the coughing mechanism,so definitely chat to your Respiratory Nurse/Resp Consultant on your next meeting and you must explain just how this effected you for many months and you don't want a repeat performance again!

Best of luck and do come back and tell us how you got on and if you are feeling any better. 😀

Its such an uphill battle at times, whether it be a cough post nasal drip(which I'm currently battling with and it takes me back to my childhood when all kids seemed to have great big runny noses, that needed a good old clear out,lol !!! My trouble is just made worse as I've got the dreaded oxygen tube up my nose and then my nose has the cheek to run a marathon. Do speak to your GP as already said there are medicines that can really help. Good luck my friend. (Sniff ,sniff where's my hankie.)
