LUNG NODULE BIOPSY

Hey there,

I hope everyone is doing good/well❤

2 weeks ago had biopsy on lower right lobe. The nodule has grown to 1cm, still small. Because I have had an upper left lobe resectef, they want to be safe and give me radiotherapy. They are not sure about this nodule. It's also in a strange place, as usual. Now I am confused whether to wait 3 months for a further CT or have it zapped, knowing it may not be a dangerous tumour. I have exhausted my thoughts.

Have a great weekend all, perhaps summer will come back 😄🌻🌻👍💯❤Hugs, Bev

(The other Bev....😋)

Hello Other Bev 👍

I’m sorry to know about the nodule having grown. What a dilemma for you. Unfortunately I have no helpful advice to offer though 2greys most likely would be able to give you some good advice. I just wanted to wish you all the best. 💐

LOL....😄Other Bev....Well, I did choose waiting another 3 months after they told me in April it was growing. But I will more than likely go for the safe decision. I do have a history of cancer🤔Anyhow...🌻Lovely to chat to you. Hugs for a nice weekend with sun☀️☀️☀️🤗

Perhaps if you hav a history of cancer, this may be the safest way to go.

Hi Bev 😊. What a decision. I don't really know what to suggest. I think if it were me, it would depend on how many times you would have to go in for " zapping " and how much the radiotherapy is going to take out of you as opposed to waiting a bit longer. I'm sorry I'm not much help. Please do keep us informed. Sending warm and happy thoughts.

Hi Cas

Yes, another nasty decision to have to make...but getting rid of anything in my lung is the best thing to do, I think, not leaving anything to chance. I will post a note again after the oncologists appointment. Have a lovely weekend. Hug, Bev xx💕

Hi Bev, I had a Nodule and was told to wait 3 months so they could monitor it. It didn't grow, so that is when they put me on the Transplant List, We are all Different, so you must do what you think Best or maybe have another Consultation to tell him/her your Concerns. Good Luck Dear Bev. Love n Hugs xxxx

What a dilemma! My OH had a lung nodule and they were all set to remove upper left lobe. Super consultant had a hunch and decided to remove via bronchoscopy first for tests and it was benign, hooray! But his was accessible, fortunately. The shape of it meant he had doubts. Said in a less obstructive place, could have stayed there.

But I know time is of the essence in catching lung stuff so maybe take the medical advice to be sure?? I’m afraid I know no more.

As others have said, 2greys is the one with most experience of similar on here. Hope he answers soon.

Thinking of you, Mel ❤️🤗 Let us know which way you decide to go.....🌻

Hi Mel🌻

Thank you so much for your reply. It's all a bit strange isn't it, where they grow and what kind they are. I suppose because of my 'history' of already having had a cancerous tumour and a lobe resected that they feel this one could also be. Thank you for responding. It's nice to hear information and youre always so carung in your messages🤗I send you hugs today and hope wherever you are you have sun🌻☀️🌝Hugs, Bev xx💎

I think they know it’s a gamble, and are playing safe. But who knows the truth at this stage?? Follow your instincts, Bev.

Live with each decision for a day and see which comes out as most reasonable/comfortable in your final thinking. That’s what I do when I feel totally undecided about big decisions.

All the very best to you 🌻

Warm hugs back 🤗 and hope the sun ☀️ shines for you too 🌹❤️🌹 xx

A very nerve racking time for you and completely understand the whirlwind of emotions you must be going through.

All I can say, in addition to what I have previously said, is that time is of essence, tumours can grow very rapidly. The thing now is if you wait then there is a chance that you could miss the window, it will grow too big to be treated with SABR and you will have too have a broader, body radiotherapy which is not as successful and exposes more of your body to radiation and you might need to have chemotherapy on top of it as well.

Did you not have a PET Scan to show just how active the nodule/tumour is? This is how my diagnosis was made, being unable to have a biopsy because of its location.

There is quite a lot of preparation involved before SABR is carried out, so there will be a slight delay of a few weeks anyway. You will have another CT Scan where a few metal markers will be placed on your chest. After the scan is completed they will give you some tattoos, just 4 little dots exactly under where the the metal markers were, theses will be used to align you in the correct position on the LINAC/Cyberknife machine so they can target the beams precisely. A custom support for your head, kneck and shoulders has to be also made. Then an appointment schedule has to be made for you, mine was on alternate days and had 5 sessions (usually it is 3,5 or 7 sessions) that were for around 45 mins long each time. The actual zap itself is very short, most of the time is taken by getting changed and being positioned on the table exactly by using the tattoos.

I tolerated the radiation very well and had virtually no side effects and was able to continue working throughout, all I really had was some lung inflammation that was taken care of by steroids.

If it was me (knowing what I know now) then I would go for it. At the end of the day your decision really is a personal one and you can only go by the advise of your specialists, the Radiographers and Oncologist. I wish you best whatever you decide to do.

Hello 2greys 😊

Thank you so much for your reply and the detailed info of this treatment. I haven't spoken to the oncologists yet, they had just given me 3 choices at their MDT. The doctor in Wythenshawe relayed this to me last Wednesday until I have the appointment at Christies in Manchester. I think I will be going for the radiotherapy, at least it's foremost in my thoughts and I am preparing myself for it. I have yet to speak to all at Christies. Apparently SABR is not on the cards for me? 🤔I will await my visit to Christies and write a note in here again when I know. I am always so happy to hear from you as you are widely read and your own experiences are helpful to us all💎I hope you're having a lovely weekend, with or without sun🌝. My best wishes to you always 🌻 Bev (2...😊)

Oh Yes, the PET scan was not definite. Apparently, the scan couldnt really see it all. There was hardly any colour in it, orange. In fact, the doctor at Wythenshawe, said nobody is really sure of anything, only given my history.....this is what makes it so hard for me...the whole thing is not 100%...🤔😕

2greys profile image
2greys in reply to Gingerapple

I really feel for you, so much uncertainty with potential urgency and the mental torment of it all. What a dilemma, all you can do is listen to the medics and their advice. No SABR, then the suspect tumour must reside close to another body part, or, Christies does not have the facilities (which I find hard to believe for a major city). I am now at the limit of my experience and sadly can be of no further, medical, help.

Try and keep positive in the meantime and not worry too much. Worry will only make you ill, whichever way you choose to go you will need inner strength to help in recovery.
