Pneumonia Vaccine

Morning all, after a chest X-ray and a spirometer test, I have been diagnosed with mild COPD. Last week the nurses suggested I have the pneumonia vaccine. I asked her if there are any side effects, she said only a pain in my arm 😃 Has anyone here had any other side effects from the vaccine. I ask because I know people had colds after the flu vaccine 😳

Well worth having and it does the job. My partner is a professional career in a nursing home and back in May she contracted Community Aquired Pnuemonia. I am pleased to say that it did not get passed on to me :)

Thank you. It’s good to know from people with experience.

I've had it with no problems. I've had a couple of other vaccinations as well as my antibodies for some respiratory bugs were low, those were fine too and I now have fewer chest infections.

I had it and was fine. I also get yearly flu vaccine with no problems. Not everyone is the same but it has to be weighed against the risks of having pneumonia.

Hi the pneumonia vaccine is a dead virus and cannot cause infection or even colds. I had one and was fine. x

I've had 2, they told me after the first that it was for life. But I needed a second one after 10 years. No problem with the first, but after the second I had my usual Pseudomonas with Pneumonia too. Ended up in hospitalm with sepsis. But I also had a Jab for Hib at the same time. :-O

I have had Pneumonia shot...last year, and had no problem but told to have repeat in 5 years?? Someone told me that can only have two in total. I need to check this with the Doctor. Wondering if any one has information on this.

This may help, nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinati...

It seems to depend on which vaccine you have.

No after effects, hardly noticed it. Do bear in mind that pneumonia is very nasty but if you have COPD it can be very serious and will hurry along progression of the disease. Likewise with flu

I personally feel worth having the vaccine and it now covers 23 strains, and a life cover, not like the original years ago, 13 strains and only 10 years cover.

Because my resistance and health has progressively deteriorated my doctor authorised a booster a couple of weeks ago, 15 yrs since original one.

No discomfort or side effects for me either.
