Hi does anyone have any good tips for exercising as I have no will power when it comes comfort eating and it's worse now I don't smoke and live alone?

Teresa, if you're in the uk you could send for the BLFs exercise DVD. It's excellent and shows you how to do some exercises from a sitting position, all designed to help with your lung stamina.

I go to my weekly Pilates class - it's paid in advance so I don't miss one! The breathing throughout is similar to pursed lip breathing and I love it.

Regarding the comfort eating, the way I handle that is not to have unhealthy stuff in the house. Just don't buy it, that's the one great thing about living alone.

Oh Teresa I could have written that too as it describes me to a tee! I gave up smoking for 17 months and put on 3 stone due to comfort eating. I stupidly went back to it 6 months ago and now have to go through all the hassle of giving it up again.

I haven't lost any weight though even though my sweet tooth isn't as sweet now and I am not comfort eating as much. I too have mild copd and know exactly what I should be doing but my willpower is largely absent. If you find any answers could you let me know please? x

I feel for you, all I can say is try to stay as active as you can, at leat it may help you to stop piling on the pounds, easier said than done. Also, I heard if you snap yourself with an elastic band when you fancy some comfort food it will help. I am oging to start that today

Yeah would if I could! I also have chronic back pain with limits my mobility. I try and eat fruit as snacks but the trouble is I eat that as well as chocolate, crisps, cake etc. x

Hi Teresa, make a shopping list before you go and stick to it. It is so easy in the supermarket to be tempted by all the goodies on show and its hard to walk on by. Once you have got the sugar craving out of your system it will help with the willpower. If you have stairs try to make the most of them by going up and down more, any form of exercise is good for you. Wish you all the best and good luck with the ymca x

I try never to go shopping when I'm hungry, it just fatal no matter how often I say to myself "I'll just have one per day" 😳

Another thing I do is try to 'eat clean'. I can't buy anything with loads of additives, palm oil or noxious ingredients, things I've never heard of. Lots of things give me indigestion. Long gone are the days that biscuit factories used only pure stuff like flour, sugar, butter & eggs. Most bics have palm oil the production of which is killing off the orangutan (can't spell it) and thousands of miles of natural forest are being destroyed.

Great that you're thinking of joining the ymca, bravo. I wish I had something like that nearer. I've just found out that a school nearby opens its pool to the public so I'll try that if you join the ymca!

Maybe once in a while give yourself a treat and make some biscuits, it will be such a hassle that it will only be a rare treat and you will know whats in them ha! x

Hi Teresa297, good on you for giving up the cigs. I go for 2 long walks every day, totalling 2 hours. Just strolling, not fast. The air is good for the lungs and great exercise to.
