Symbacort

Symbacort contains a steroid, can one just stop taking this medication and switch to say,, spiriva which has no steroid?

Inhaled corticosteroids are not like taking oral steroids. There is a minimal amount that enters the blood stream and the body.

You have been prescribed an ICS (inhaled steroids) to control inflammation of the airways. You should not stop taking it without being told to do so by your doctor.

I need a double strength of corticosteroid inhaler to control the inflammation caused by radiotherapy.

Believe me that inflammation of the airways can be worse than a severe exacerbation, and it is absolutely crippling.

I'm more nervous about the serious lung infections associated with inhaled corticosteroids

I can tell you that I have had just one infection in 18 months, stop worrying about it. Worry will make you all the more worse.

I have been taking symbicort for a few years now with no side affects and could not live with out it. so no need to worry.

I was on Simbicort for a couple years or so and just stopped taking it with no side effects as far as I noticed

Interesting, what Med if any did you switch too?

I stopped because I had had a Rituximab infusion and didn’t feel it was doing me any good. Eventually I started using Anoro Ellipta which I think is a miracle (for me anyway)

I stopped as well years ago with no effects and went to Anora. sadly I don't notice any benefit from any of the inhalers I use other then Pro Air the rescue inhaler. However as someone suggested ask your doctor........

Symbicort , is not an advisable medication to take, and is being dropped by many medical establishments as a recommended medication for COPD. As you rightly say it compromises the immune system , which rather defeats the issue for sufferers. None of us are likely to die of COPD , but by an infection which our lungs can't handle.

I take Ultibro, which has two components one of which replaces the Symbicort, and is not a steroid. This is an extremely effective medication and as someone who did not find either Spiriva or Symbicort a good combination, I was prescribed this.

It has been very efffective and suits my system far better. I am a borderline 3/4 stage.

I would recommend you ask your GP if you can change to this. I have had far less infections.

I also have an air purifying system ..Vax. ..made a huge difference.

I also use an air spray made by Puressentiel ( Amazon) another air purifier. It contains 41 essential oils and proven effective for anti bacteria,anti fungal,and anti viral. In France, this is used in doctors waiting rooms to safeguard patients. I use it in the house and if I go to stay with people, especially those with young children, I take a pocket version with me, and also use a anti bacterial nasal spray.

Amazing, thx so much I'll ask my Dr about your recommended medication. It's all trial and error with all Med Esp COPD meds as there seems to be countless selection to choice from......
