Hi everyone I’m a newbie and I am needing some advice before I loose my mind. I suffer with asthma but the last 6 months have had 2 bad chest infections and where off work and given antibiotics

It seems to be when I come back from a holiday so I am thinking my triggers r the dry and cold air anyway I went to the drs was firstly prescribed predisolone never used them before started off 6 a day. Then got worse and had 8 a day with antibiotics and 2 new inhalers, still got worse another course of steroids and doxycycline which made me sick. So now I have visited the drs 6 times in 2 weeks and spent £60 on prescriptions. I now have a sharp pain when I breath where my chest bone is and thought it was indigestion but it is not going away and it has also started in between my shoulder blades......wot do I do 🙏🏻

Welcome Magster, sorry to hear of your problems but you need further investigations it seems and that starts with your GP. Tell him how you’re feeling and perhaps get a referral to a lung specialist who will know what to do next. Don’t be fobbed off.

Good luck and best wishes to you. Xxx

That list of prescriptions seems unusual to me and 8 predisolne seems high, Mum never had that many I don’t think. As Sassy59 says I would hassle the stuff out of the doctor until you get a proper checking over. I worked in a doctors surgery and it is the squeaky hinge that gets the oil. It shouldn’t be like that but it is I think.

I had to be such a huge pain in the bottom to my Mums doctor before the appropriate care was put in place. I even made a Subject Access Request ( see Information Commissioner Office website about how to do it; there are template letters and everything) obtain all of her notes in hard copy before they realised I wasn’t going away. Great tool that.

Hope you can get some help.

If you are finding it increasingly difficult and painful to breathe, I would ring 111 today and ask their advice.

But anyway get an appointment with your GP tomorrow , before the weekend. Tell them about your chest pains and how exactly how you feel.....you may need another type of antibiotic.

I have taken 8 steroids a day in the past too. When I finish a high course like that my mood takes a dive for a while .

I am sorry about how much your medications have cost you so far.

Take care now, keep a close eye on your asthma symptoms and get help if you need.

As far as the cost of medicines are, have you thought of getting a prepayment certificate? Hope you feel better soon xx

Hi Magster, sorry you aren’t feeling good. I’ve had those exact symptoms many times throughout the years. Are you running a fever now and still struggling now? Just finished an 8 day course of prednisone. Starting with 60mg, then 40, 30, 20 now 10. If you are still struggling and have not been back to the Dr I hope you get to one ASAP, especially if pain when breathing and fever. That means big trouble for me. Doxycycline is a good antibiotic for this but so is a Z Pak and if severe Levequin. They all can make you feel sick but the benefit outweighs the risk if you have a respiratory infection. Hope you are feeling better by now. 💪🏻
