My husband has recently had a diagnosis of COPD. He requires 02 24/7. We have two concentrators for home use and oxygen cylinders when going out. We would like to spend a weekend in Dublin but have no idea how to get the required oxygen.

Can anyone please advise.

Have you asked your oxygen supplier for advice? I am sure they have had other customers in your situation. Enjoy your break.

Welcome , I have a Inogen 1 Mobile, which I have taken with me to stay over in a Hotel,(UK) it is battery run so only needed to plug it in, See if you can change the Heavy Cylinders for this Shoulder Bag Size. Ask your Supplier, Mine is Air Liquide. Good Luck and have a nice time in Ireland. xxxx

Thank you. My husband has a POC but it is not suitable to use over night as it’s pulsed and he requires continuous 02 ?

My Imogen gives me overnight 02, as it is battery, I have it Plugged in, Only use it like this if in a Hotel. I am on 02 at home by a Converter which flows, to big to travel with. I'm sure you'll find a way. Good Luck. xxxx

You should be able to have what you require provided where your staying so ring your oxygen supplier for advice

Thank you. Seems to be a problem as it’s outside the UK and not covered by NHS

Contact your oxygen supplier tell them you are going away on holiday give them the details and they should arrange to have your oxygen supplied to you whilst on holiday .

Hi Malta, I am on 6l/min ambulatory and 1l/min at rest.

I have my own Imogen one G3 concentrator which gives 2 to 3 hours on each fully charged battery. We went to Dublin by taking our car on the ferry from Holyhead. I took 10 cylinders for when we were walking around, we also had an overnight stay at Shrewsbury going and Birmingham returning as the drive from Brighton would be too much for me in 1 go. With careful management, onlyusing cylinders when walking and switching to battery as soon as we stop. I lasted the 6 days we were away. As it’s not U.K., your regular supplier can’t deliver at your hotel.

Thank you. My husband has a POC but it can be used at night. The oxygen cylinder he has only lasts 2/3 hrs at 4 L so is not suitable to use overnight either.

I also have COPD (Emphysema) and am using O2 24/7. We have been travelling to Eire to the West Coast for about 20years and had O2 delivered each time. All I had to do was ask my Respiratory Nurse to forward my prescription to the area health authority I was going to.

I made sure I had all their numbers in case of problems but there were none.

Good luck.

Thanks for this. Just a few questions. Did you stay in a hotel or B&B ? If so did you advise them in advance? Do you use a concentrator? My husband needs continuous 02. He used a portable POC but has recently changed to 24/7 02. which the POC cannot be used for. Do you use cylinders when mobilising? Did they delivery them. Did you have to pay for the service?

Hi, I am on oxygen, 3litres a minute for 16 hours a day. I hate it with a passion, but I know I have to have it. I have been for a short break, and a couple of weeks before I went, I contacted my oxygen supplier, gave them the date I was going and coming back, and they passed that information to the local oxygen supplier for the area I was going to. It really is that easy. I hope this has helped, and I wish you a wonderful holiday

Just come back to this site. You can arrange oxygen under the EHIC card arrangement. I have done this when we went to Mallorca last year and the equipment was waiting for me in the hotel. It does take a little arranging but is well worth it.
