I'm afraid I only have words of comfort to offer. The NHS has many faults, especially when dealing with relatively minor things, but with major things like your operation, in my experience, it can be relied upon to give of the very best in treatment. I'm sure members having had major ops with COPD will be along to confirm this.

I had part of my lung removed, it was the staph infection that followed that almost killed me. Didn't know I had it until I got home. Had to be rushed to hospital and was in ICU for 3 days. Just have to make sure if you're feeling a little off to get to hospital everyone just thought I was over medicating. I got to hospital but barely.

Yes Dave I have severe COPD and last October I had major lung surgery removing a lobe in my left lung .I'm almost 72 years old and the op went well with no problem. The surgeons would not suggest an operation if you weren't fit enough so good luck .

Love Babs ♥️

Hi Dave2436

I had major abdominal surgery a few years ago and even though the anaesthetist had some concerns it went fine. The only issue for me was doing exercise with a large wound (I have bronchiectasis as well as COPD) but I sort of got my heart going with arm exercises and slow walking until I got my vim back.

The best of luck to you :)

I think you can be sure that they will not carry out any procedure without taking full account of your other health issues. I had a nasty operation on the roof of my mouth a couple of years ago. I opted "to be awake" because I was terrified about my SOB, it went well. I have to say that now I am settled into my diagnosis and meds and understand the great care that anathesiologists (forgive my spelling) take I would be quite confident about "going under". They know their stuff. Try not to worry. Take care.

Thank you so much

I have emphysema (copd) and over the last 6 years I have had both upper lung lobes removed for lung cancer, and 3 weeks ago I had hip replacement surgery for my right hip.

Before any op your consultant will liaise with others to decide if you are suitable for a general anaesthetic and what other options are available to you. I had a cancer op 2years ago under local anaesthetic which was successful. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Hope you are soon improved. Good luck
