Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me, I was diagnosed a few months ago with Genital Herpes which I was shocked as I don’t sleep around, but I went to the doctors the other day as I had a very bad chest infection which since taking the tablets is clearing up, but can amoxicillin cause your immune system to be low as I think I have another outbreak of genital herpes and I haven’t done anything except for take these tablets, in a bit worried

You are probably having an outbreak because your immune system is ow and is also having to fight the chest infection. The amoxyl is to fight the bacteria in the chest infection but as herpes is a virus it cannot help against that. It won't cause the herpes.

You don't have to get genital herpes from sex. Accidental transfer from the mouth or the virus on a surface can cause a susceptible person to catch it.

It takes time to work it's way out of the body and tends to come back when you are low. Your GP should be giving you anti virals or zovirax cream.

Thanks for that, I did have some tablets when I first got blisters and it went, and it’s so embarrassing to know you have the genital herpes especially when you know you haven’t been sexually active. Thanks for the reply

You can buy zovirax cream at the chemist. It is very common. Don’t feel bad about it and don’t tell stupid people who don’t need to know. x

Be careful of zovirax if you are taking steroids. I had cold sores but was told not to use it while on steroids.

Exactly what Littlepom said! You're run down because of the chest infection and that's when the herpes decides to make an appearance. It's such a pain but nothing to be ashamed of- it's an illness like any other (and a painful one at that) that can be passed on in many ways. I hope you get well soon. x

But isnt it embarrassing just because we live in a repressed uptight culture prettywoman? Seriously, dont be embarrassed - you've told us and the world hasnt ended And LP is right - dont confide with anyone who is likely to be stupid about it.

I get the lip version of herpes - cold sores - and I always treat them with the supplement Lysine the minute I feel something in my lip and it works like a miracle. Someone suggested recently that maybe taking Lysine for genital herpes or shingles might work too. Could be worth a try since all the herpes viruses are similar - you get Lysine at health food shops or chemists. All best

Hi, I dont want to frighten you, but I was once told by a nurse that she thought I had genital herpes when I got a smear test, and I felt outraged as I had been married for 20 years and not been up to anything, anyway made an appointment with doctor and was finally diagnosed with vulva cancer, caught early enough thank goodness but had symptoms for over a year and yes looked just like a small ulser/coldsaw and itchy. If has re occurred get checked out again to be on the safe side xx

OMG, I will go get it checked again Thankyou, but I did have a blister on my bottom that’s how I found out I had the virus . Are you ok now? And do you have to have regular checkups? X

Dear o dear....do not panic...you will mess up your breathing...maybe yes, some lavender oil ...2 drops or more in bath water,before putting on cream...sorry I'm male, but do put on cotton panties...my wife had it some time ago...followed advice from female doctor...she's been well now for some time...my 3 daughters followed this advice...of course with advice from your doc...last but not least it is always good to follow up wit female doc...they do understand better with lots of nurturing empathy....but yes, the choice is yours...hang in there....all is well....you do not get cancer overnight, but yes follow up if this puts you mind at ease...

Hi, yes I am fine now thank you, but had to undergo 6 operations over 18 months, had 5 years of being ok, and it reared its ugly head 2 years ago, I have been very lucky that it is a slow growing cancer and I see my consultant regularly now. But I did have an itch and an ulcer that I ignored for a year thinking it was just an irritation and I only mentioned it to the nurse when I was having a smear and thank goodness I did xx. I cringe now when I see adds for creams to treat vaginal itching and want to scream....see you doctor, don't self treat!! X

The only thing I can say to your question is

Any and Every time my gp changes my medication which is a lot due to complications ect. I ALWAYS Take Bacterial vaginosis. Which if you ask your pharmacist or read the common and the uncommon side affects leaflet with your meds it may well tell you this in there mine does

And I'm single for 8 years and due to my health I DEFINITELY dont have the energy to have a partner anymore ☺

Do take a good yogurt while taking amoxyl... helps to protect the the tummy...or any other other probiotic...I do agree with Littlepom...take care...you will be well soon....

I agree about taking a LIVE yoghurt, not pasteurised when taking antibiotics, they do knock your system for six as they kill off good as well as bad bacteria. I always ended up with Thrush! The herpes virus is lying dormant within your system and doesn't need much to show up again. I suffered from boils for a couple of years which made my life a misery. I attended hospital for almost a year with very little success, I then saw a "wee laddie" who took one look and said he knew what was causing them, He squeezed one to get a sample but meanwhile, he prescribed a different antibiotic, the boils cleared up as if by magic and I later found out the wee laddie was a consultant! When I moved to Lancashire I had a fantastic lady doctor who prescribed Diflucan tablets every time she gave me antibiotics which really saved me years of misery. I do suggest you find a female doctor and get her to check you out and refer you to a dermatologist if necessary, best to be on the safe side. Sorry I've rabbited on. Good luck

The majority of the population has the herpes virus. Some show it, others do not. If ever your partner has signs, do not jump to conclusion of unfaithfulness.

Same as everyone else has said ( there’s no shame, loads of people have it, it emerges when your immunity is low ) but do try taking oregano oil . It kills viruses and can be useful. Also turmeric and probiotics too. Good luck!

I have amoxicillin as a stand by dose when I get a chest infection. I've had no problems with them.

The alternative I was offered was doxycycline which I had an adverse reaction to. There are alternative antibiotics. Discuss it with your GP if you feel bad taking them.

How certain is your diagnosis? Was it a visual diagnosis from your GP or from confirmed testing at a GUM clinic?

The reason I’m asking this is when I was expecting my second child I had ulcers down below I went to the GP he said I’d got Herpes, referred me to a GUM clinic at 6 months pregnant I was young only had one partner very scared and didn’t even know what Herpes was...

Had all the tests under the sun done as I was expecting a baby, I had them done again twice, all came back negative thank goodness! However was made to feel really uncomfortable and looked down at by other patients, and some staff members...(this happened over a period of a month) yes it does make you feel uncomfortable as people are very cruel and judge you too easily!!

I was then taken through to a lovely Dr and he told me he’d only ever seen this twice in his career as a GUM consultant and said he thought I had Behçet’s disease! I was totally taken aback after a month of my partner threatening to leaving us as he thought I’d slept with somebody behind his back and me wondering if he had the same...as I knew I hadn’t! ......I had an illness an autoimmune disease!

These things are always worth checking and double checking. If it’s not confirmed by a test please get yourself referred by your doctor to one of the UK clinics for Behçets Disease. They are called “The Behçet’s Syndrome Centre of Excellence”

I also believe you can get these with Lupus too! The sister illness to mine! It’s worth getting these checked out and certainly to rule out any serious issues. But don’t panic.

If it is Herpes don’t feel bad about it, either! Its society and the way people are today that causes the problems! It’s an illness the same as mine I have to live with it and the ulcers are down below, in my mouth and all through my digestive tract now. I have to treat the symptoms, as an illness the same way you do! Don’t ever feel embarrassed it’s not your fault. Try to eat well and drink plenty of water, the healthier you can be the less frequent the virus will break out.

Thankyou so much for that, I will check behcets and go back to my GO aswell. It was a visual diagnosis and she sent me for a blood test. And when I called up for the results they never said whether it was negative or positive all the receptionist could say is why did you go for a blood test and when I explained that the doctor couldn’t find any swabs she just said “oh” and still to this day don’t know what the proper results are to my blood test

Sorry to hear that you have herpes i had mouth herpes lets just say they were a unwanted gift from my husband i have outbreaks when I feel rundown they can be anywhere on the body usually i get them inside my nose but i have had them on my shoulder and in my ear they are painful at times and not nice to look at if u have a bad outbreak . i always say they are a gift that keeps on giving there is no cure unfortunately just creams etc which can be expensive to buy .have you tried dactarin it's effective and instead of a tiny tube of outher herpes creams it is a large tube it's used for for for for nail fungus infections but it works when I have a cold sore out break (,the gift that keeps on giving )
