Anxiety about test results

Having major anxiety about my test 29th and results 30th not long to go but doing this by myself scares me. Hope I haven't declined. Guess with all the test I will know exactly what I have but really scared to know. Crazy but true. Feel back to square one

Come on Emily! You were doing so well. I’m sorry that your husband left but that is a failing in him, not you and leaves you free to do as you want.

Now these tests. They are just a tick box exercise to indicate to the medics how to carry on with your treatment. They are not a judgement on you, neither will they indicate how you are progressing because they change due to our circumstances when we do them.

I have been doing these tests for 66 years. I rarely bother to look at the results.

What is important is how you feel in yourself and how you consider that your treatment is helping you.

Go do the test. Have a laugh with the physiologist.

Go home and forget about it.

Lots of love.

You have good people looking after your health now Emily, leave them to get on with their job and concentrate on enjoying your new found freedom. You have already proved that you are more than capable.

Hi Emily. I have had extreme anxiety about test results and whether things are worse than a year ago. I have managed to get this into perspective recently (I’m not sure how) but just go by how you feel. Most of the time I feel fine xx

Yes I am sure it is scary going on your own. Do you have someone who can go with you for support? If not, know that lovely people on this group will be thinking of you. Best wishes for a good outcome.

It's only a series of numbers. My Consultant tells me this. Be Positive and focus on what you CAN not what you can't. It works.

What test you having done Emily if you dont mind me asking? I too am a very anxious person, when I have any sort of medical appointment coming up I go to pieces, dont eat or sleep properly and tend to not want to go or see anyone, hope your ok xx

in reply to Diane11270

Full lung function test single breath defusion. It's been a horrible journey. Hospital admission Dec. Told I have copd. Dr after results said asthma moderate severe copd. Then told moderste copd. Then Feb consultant said didn't think I had he felt just asthma, but to confirm copd more test as described. Had difficulty breathing so went to A and E, Dr said x-ray showed empthasima, so not knowing whether I am coming or going.

My husband leaving me in all of this confusion hasn't helped. Keep hearing my Dr say progressive disease, I feel I have got worse and scared test will show I have. My daughter has booked 4 week break abroad for her and I after my results. Not sure I want to go. Stayed at my other daughters last night back home as I have got work tomorrow. I just want to fast forward to 30th but I don't.

I feel exactly like you do. Sorry for long reply.

I have a wonderful friend name Jill who has been there for me. I am really scared and confused. Nothing to do with husband going it the test and results that scare me. Have I declined is what I want to know. Feel I have so so scared

Sorry 4 day break abroad not 4 week

I think it is quite normal to be worried and anxious Emily. You seem to be doing well . You have all the people on the forum rallying for you so don't feel alone. Maybe you have a friend or relation that can go with you on these days. x Anita

My daughter said she will go with me. The nearer it gets the more fearful I am getting actually terrified.

Don't feel i am doing well at all. So much has changed health wise rinse seeing consultant last health wise. I know anxiety doesn't help but absolutely petrified if I am honest. Can't eat properly sleep properly. Waking up sweating. Trying my hardest to function but really struggling. Work I am finding hard but I push through. I could happily stay at home until test and results as I don't want to be around any one. Worn myself out

Oh dear Hidden ......as sure as we are reading or writing your replies, you will get through this and you will go and get your tests done. The results......,well, they are numbers and.many members here, concentrate more on how they feel within themselves. You can do this and I'm presuming that you will most probably not need another set of tests for either 6 or 12 months? You can cope.....,you have little choice but to! Good luck 👍and don't forget to tell us.how your day went.

I have been struggling breathing wise for weeks and struggling with work which makes me feel I have declined I have found no peace of mind which is what I need to find. It's having no clear diagnosis which I will on 30th. Feel a bit of a tit, was doing really well getting on with things until dip in breathing

It’s probably anxiety that’s making you breathless, Emily, it’s known for it. Don’t forget that.

If you can just relax a bit , or get something from the doctor to help, maybe, I’m sure the world will look a brighter place.

With Jill and your daughters helping you, and a short break planned soon, you’ve got lots to be comforted by. You’ve been through a lot but there’s much better to come 🌸☀️🌷💕 Penny xx

Thank you

Dear Hidden , try not to put too much pressure on yourself.....not as easy as it sounds but if you can reduce your anxiety, then maybe your breathing will be easier? Do you do the "purse lip" breathing techniques? If not look on U Tube or I think the BLF website have a section on breathing.

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

Thank you and yes I do

Emily I suffer from terrible anxiety in fact it rules my life at times. I've been so often to the dr with breathing problems only to find out its anxiety. I only got diagnosed in January this year and I know its early days for you too so take your time coming to terms with things and listen to the people on here who can help you. I am. Try a site called headspace it's great one of the girls here told me about it it's a lifesaver. Another good one for your phone is one moment meditation. It's really just 1 minute and easy to look at. I'm scared too Emily never knew the real meaning of scared until recently but I've got copd and it's not beating me. You take care Emily and let us know how you get on Mx

in reply to

Hi thank you I am glad you said you are fighting and do just that. I am back to progressive ringing in my ears. I guess I can't run away from outcome. Think I am just not in a great place at the moment

in reply to

Hey Emily. Just keep doing what your doing and stay connected to this site for support. We all need it. It's ok to be needy for a while so dont beat yourself up. Take care of you and your lovely caring daughters Mx

Hi Emily. I think we've communicated before. I still think you need help with your anxiety as much as you do with your breathing - they are both medical conditions and treatable. The next time you see ANY medical professional, make sure they realise how anxious you are and ask them to refer you to a specialist for that too - it may take a while, but the earlier you get the wheels in motion, the better you will feel in the long run.

Take care now.

Hi have a referral awaiting appointment thank you

Hi Emily I just want to say all the best of luck when the time comes, I get anxious before Appointments’s also usually starts the day before then I can’t sleep for worrying I’ll sleep in and miss the appt. the good thing is your getting your results the very nxt day I think that itself is great you don’t have to wait a month or two so a bit less anxiety. It’s horrible being out of breath and I know now myself that feeling anxious makes my breathing worse and my breathing being worse makes me more anxious. We are all here thinking of you and wishing you the best and once you know for definite what’s wrong you can get the proper treatment. Go start getting your suitcase packed and enjoy some nice times with your daughter. Take care I’ll keep you in my prayers 🌹🌹

Anxiety heightens all these symptoms and you have had do much to make you anxious? Give yourself a break!!xx My daughters are also treating me to four days away (Dublin).
