That's right iam a ex-junkie, iam only able to, admit to it, now, Cos i know its dam well dun and dusted.🥳. Anyway it's about time i introduced myself, considering ive been receiving for about a year, it's about time i gave back. "obviously , shall we say" my memory a little dented, but i thick i got diagnosed about 5 years ago with copd. Been clean over 2 years, now. Starting to love life again. Shame iam unable to live it to its full potential, ( warning to all you, who are still messing about ) but a, ive been also smokefree nearly 6 months, so still buzzing. When i think back, of how i used to be. Sometimes, taking up to 6 hours to emptying my lungs. my feelings go's out to all you brave people, whose going through that terrible tiring task, every day. I must say, aswell as exercise, music has been my saver. "That's right, butty" turn the t.v. off, starting tomorrow. Stick some tunes on, maybe then it just might get you moving a little.? If you are still reading this "just shows how desperate you are"😟. Gioh, It's agood job, this is for a British audience. Lets gust see if i get any responses. Abuse onlly please,, its ok, i can take it, iam Welsh !

I read it all and it made me think. My youngest son is an alcoholic and hopefully recovering drug addict. I hope he hasn’t completely screwed up his life but who knows.

Sorry can’t be bothered with abuse as that serves no purpose.

I’m a carer for my husband who has sarcoidosis and COPD. It’s no fun. I’m also mum to three, the youngest of whom is an addict who also suffers from depression.

If you’ve read this, good, I wish you well.

Thank you for those kind words, it's exactly what i needed to hear. I went ahead and pressed post, without reading it back frist! 'Dimwit' Of course, nobody wants to hear abuse, especially off strangers. I think i still have underling rejection problems. As far as giving-up smoking goes, please don't feel useless. There's people out-there (who i know personally) who's managed to give-up herion, yet can't give-up the fags. Even i gave-up the gear (herion) 18 months before i gave-up the fags. So yeh, it can be harder then the so called hardest drug of all. Keep the energy positive and stay strong.

Well done for being clean for two years and of course giving up smoking. In many ways I believe I understand how easy it is to become an addict and how hard it is to stop. For the last ten years I have been on opiate based pain killers. I know from experience how difficult coming of morphine is when I have a good period. It's frustrating when I finally come off them to have to go back on them when my arthritis flairs again and I know at some point I will need to stop them again. I think what I am trying to say is that withdrawal is a horrible miserable experience and well done for having the courage to stop.

Welshsteveee profile image
Welshsteveee in reply to Badbessie

Iam most grateful for making yourself known to me. As far opium-based withdrawal (clucking) goes, in my experience theirs not much distinction between heroin, morphine, codeine, etc'. As we used to say,"theirs a easy cluck and theirs a hard cluck, but its a cluck is a cluck". I had friend who was on codeine and as your probably aware as time goes on your tolerance builds-up so you have to take more to have the same effect. Anyway their was a few times he couldn't get-out of bed, even with the encouraging promise of a bottle taps. That would never happen to a heroin-user, because you would always find the strenght to get off your hot inside cold outside ass, to sort yourself out. So to summarise 'yes' i do know where your coming from and 'yes' you definitely knows where iam coming from.

Badbessie profile image
Badbessie in reply to Welshsteveee

I started on codeine until I was on the maximum dose. There were times when I reduced the dose but then I had a bad period and the doc put me on a patch. Which is fine, However there is no off switch you get the full dose even if you are having a good day. Then they gave me oramorph for breakthrough pain. I still am on a reduced dose of codeine. My Doctor said I was not an addict but dependent. Basically I think whatever word you use you are still addicted.

Welshsteveee profile image
Welshsteveee in reply to Badbessie

Not a addict but a dependent "really" that's just a doctor's way out of saying I never got you addicted ,when you mentioned patch I assume you're talking about the fentanyl patch if that is the case you are seriously dealing with some pain my heart and thoughts goes out to you

Sorry about my previous reply let's just say I was a little sensitive considering I spent 2 hours writing that post please take into account that I have a reading age of 11 year old and that's probably half the reason why I got into drugs in the first place, that's another reason why I actually found the microphone button and I'm now using dictate text I know on your behalf it was just constructive criticism, but it really hit the spot with me because I tried so hard checking every sentence for spelling mistakes how many times I have to Google different words maybe with a bit of time I'll get it right and go back to writing .p.s. Well Hun ,I'm proud of you !!! And you should be proud of yourself !!! Addiction is an illness , I lost my son 3 years ago to heroin and I cry for him every day xxxx he tried so many times to be clean , it's the worst pain anyone can go threw loosing a son or daughter XXX he was one of the nicest people you could meet !!!! I am end stage emphysema, on oxygen 24 /7 28% lung function ,nearly died twice after loosing my Lee, but he wouldn't let me ,I had to still live for my daughter's and grandchildren, and do you know Hun ,I believe he gets me threw every day !!! I still live life ,alt different , just come back from Spain ,and I'm a total nutcase !!! Was in the pub trade 20 years !!! Hey Hun you're a hero !!! Bless you xxxx

Welshsteveee profile image
Welshsteveee in reply to

Thanks for your kind words, I'm terribly sorry to hear to what happen to your Lee, it's absolutely soul-destroying addiction, you know what they say it happens to the best of them,I'll be totally honest with you there is no way I would have been able to give up that crap if it wasn't for my veins collapsing and my lungs Giving In. I even tried snorting it but to no avail because it's still repressed my breathing, so basically I was forced to give up that crap. Listening to the other side of the story makes me realise how lucky and fortunate I am considering not once but twice I overdosed.

Please take comfort knowing there's nothing you could have done for Lee I'm sure, not only did you do your best but you put up with a lot of heartache, I know because I put my loved ones through the same shit and it's still eating me up. on a positive note you got your marvelous grandchildren to look up to now and I'm sure they're gonna need your wisdom as well as your daughter please excuse the grammar and writing because I'm using my new found friend the dictate button hope to talk to you again because that's exactly what I'm doing. P.s I love the fact that you managed to throw in at the end that you were in in the pub trade,'me too' but a landlady will always be a landlady, peace out.

Hi Steve, well done with the not smoking, it is awful coughing up all that gunk but better out than in. You sound as if you have a few years left in you, probably more than me! I think you need to get back to the Drs and they will prescribe the best course of treatment for you. I don't know but it sounds like you have made enormous strides forward in your life, I wish I had your courage. I will say that you are pushing it a bit not getting treatment before now. Good luck

Welshsteveee profile image
Welshsteveee in reply to stamford1234

That's right it's always always better out than in, when I think back and how long you used to take me to empty my lungs and I'm the type of person who will push out that extra repetition just to make sure, so with me not smoking for 6 months I really don't see no point in going to the doctor's since im getting better week by week but the truth of the matter is I never really got on with doctors, actually I did go to the doctor's a couple of years ago because I had a chest infection and I need an antibiotics I remember now as I'm talking to you or should I say talking to the mic now I don't need to excuse for grammar 'haha'. Thanks for the reply and your concerns

My daughter had some Reggae on then I saw this and now I’m listening to Madness at new year. As for dancing I can’t dance how I used to with this music, last time I did to a local band who I might say are amaaaaazinnnggg 2Rude I wasn’t able to move for over two weeks after. But gee it felt like I was so alive. You got me ‘ moving moving I like to move it move it🎶 Lol

No abuse from me mate, nothing but praise, I have mild COPD but my biggest challenge was living with an alcoholic brother, he will not to this day accept his addiction, has broken many friends and relatives in the process, recognizing your problem is one of the biggest steps you will ever make , congratulations once again, and oh by the way stay clear of the sheep LOL!!

Thanks for the congrats and not abusing me. 'Yeh' ive come across my fair share of piss-heads out there, but to live with one and him being your brother, let's just say you've got my sympathies. The frustrating part about it is you probably can't even do anything about it,him being your brother and all.

It's ok for them, they keep covering their pain up,while you have to deal with it everyday. It's totally unfair (thats why iam still in regret mode) the pain and suffering ive put my love one's through. My heart and thoughs go out to you,cos it's a sad sad situation you guys are in.

Well done Steve, i too am a recovering addict and i was diagnosed 8 yrs ago now. Ive been drug free for almost 5 yrs now although i spent 5yrs before that on and off before it stuck. Dont dog yourself mate as some have said its not easy to stop any addiction but i know why you feel like that because i was the same at first. I used to think "what should i be proud of because its my fault i took drugs" the fact is youve stopped and as you know theres plenty of others who either dont want to or think that they couldnt stop so they dont even try. Give yourself credit where its due, your COPD has probably got as much to do with the drugs as the cigs so even better that you dont smoke too. Keep up the good work Steve!
