Trying to keep my cool.

fidgetandscooter profile image

I am normally a cool character. I don't get stressed easily which is a good thing for anyone who has breathing difficulties. However, my patience was tried yesterday.

I attend two different hospitals for my various conditions and the two hospitals do not talk to each other because they are in different health authorities. This is not helpful.

I had a call yesterday from the hospital that deals with my Rheumatoid Arthritis which is a different one to the one that deals with my heart and lungs.

I inject Methotrexate weekly and have to have a blood test every three months. I was aware that I had lapsed on my blood test because of being in hospital and now being virtually housebound. This I explained to the nurse, but she sounded to me as though she sniggered, so I apologised profusely. I was told that I could not have the Methotrexate until I had had the blood test so would I sort that out quickly. It was her tone rather than her request for me to have a blood test that annoyed me.

I can't do anything quickly these days.

So I called my surgery and they were so helpful as they usually are. They are sending a nurse to do a blood test at home and also getting my doctor to request an assessment for liquid oxygen for me as I was able to sneak that one in as well. I know things will fall into place, but I'm still getting used to having to plan everything before I can do anything.

Do you still want me to put up my drawings...or have you had enough now!!!!!!

Methotrexate caused my aatd lung disease to accelerate fast forward. I also have R.A. due to my lungs I can’t take infusables or methotrexate. I take leflunimide, pain meds, gabapentin plus several inhalers steroids etc. my feet began killing me so I was placed on antidepressant cymbalta. I thought that odd, however it did stop the pain in my feet.

I was diagnosed with RA in 2006 and COPD in 2002. The COPD symptoms were hardly noticeable. They have both got worse together!

Really hope you get things sorted out very quickly it can all get so frustrating. This is the first picture I have seen of yours and wondered if I might use it please. I decorate rocks which I then hide for children to find and would love to use this is you don't mind?

I am always very nervous about giving permission for anyone to use one of my drawings as I have been ripped off in the past. However, if you want to use it to decorate a rock and there is no gain to yourself then I am happy for you to make one copy. Thank you for asking as a lot of people don't as they think it's copyright free. It's not. If you should see anymore of my drawings then please ask first. Thank you.

That is really most kind of you, and no it is not done for any monetary gain what so ever. I buy bags of rocks and paint and decorate them then varnish them and hide for children to find. I am part of a local group with a lot of members and the kids love it plus it gets them outside and off their gadgets which is a good thing. Plus being a disabled pensioner it is giving me something to keep me occupied. So really grateful

We still want your beautiful drawings so please keep posting. Strange but I have chased up an appointment with the rheumatology in MRI and found their attitude quite bad. I wouldnt go onto methotrexate so they discharged me with no help at all, that was a few years ago, but my wrist bone is now growing and so painful so am having to go back, still not sure if i will accept methotrexate but want advice. I phoned to see if they could hurry the appointment but they just said your on the list, since received one for July, thats a 4-5 month wait, crazy or what. I do think some of the people on reception do let the power of the job go to their head. Anyway it sounds like your doctors are very nice and are dealing with the problem. So glad it has been sorted for you, its hard enough dealing with illness without these people adding to your problems x

Mostly, people have been very kind and understanding. I am learning through necessity to speak up and stick up for myself. I get on pretty well with everyone at my surgery. When I called them and asked to speak to secretaries and admin I started of by giving my name and then I said jokingly...I'm about to spoil your weekend!!!! I find being lighthearted and cracking the odd joke makes them much more helpful!!!!

Yes, me too, laughter is usually an icebreaker, terrible that we have to stand up so much for ourselves nowadays. But I do find that my Victor Mildrew voice comes along quickly now I have passed the age of 65 ha!

Hi Hun, Don't Stop The Drawings. This Morning I have read two Posts re, Bad Treatment by a snotty Nurse, and another regarding RA and very bad pain in hands and Feet, Just thought they may be useful for you to Read. Hope all gets sorted out for you. Trials & Tribulations, Sounds Like a Punishment for the innocent. Have a Great weekend and stay Positive and carry on Drawing. Love n Hugs . xxxx

Please carry on posting the pictures, I enjoy seeing them. 🙂 I'd also like to know if you are still able to produce drawings of that standard despite your health problems? Nurse Snigger sounds like one of those people full of her own importance with whom we have to put up. They can be quite amusing if viewed in the right light. 😊

I can still draw to that standard but it takes a bit longer.

Hi poor you with RA as well as COPD as if that isn't enough. I have a couple of friends with RA and they go for an infusion every few months . Don't know what it is but it takes 6 hours and lasts several months. I'll find out what it's called and post you . In the meantime hope all gets sorted . I've noticed my husband who used to be so laid back he was practically vertical has changed personality and become quite anxious about "little things " as his COPD has progressed . Very understandable but not always easy to live with. Take care and keep posting the drawings . Everyone loves them

It seems as though quite a few people have the double dose of RA and COPD. If one doesn't get you, the other one will!! I seem to be okay on Methotrexate but my nearest access to it is 20 miles away, and with such rules about blood tests, it makes getting hold of it rather difficult. A trip to my nearest hospital takes about 4 hours, so it's a day trip. Since I've been on oxygen a friend has taken me to hospital appointments so that does make it easier. Now that the weather is getting warmer, I want to be outside if I can. Changing my oxygen will help with that. I'll be prancing like a gazelle in no time!!!!
