Heartbroken daughter

Hi everyone I just thought I'd let you know my mum who had ipf passed away on Wednesday. She had spent a lovely week over easter at her caravan with my step dad. On the way back she told him to take her to the pier one last time as she wasn't coming back. When she was 10 minutes away from her home she passed away in their car. It was very distressing for us has the police had to come as it was classed as a sudden death. We are now waiting to see if she needs a post mortem and we will know this on Monday.

I am so terribly sorry. I am though, relieved she spent Easter in a place she loved with someone she loved. Her final wish to see the pier is so very touching and thank goodness she got to do that. I hope very much for comfort for you in the coming days. She must have been one remarkable woman.

My sincere condolences. I know that it is no consolation at the moment but it sounds like a good way to go, having spent a nice weekend and been somewhere special for one last time. It is a terrible shock when someone dies suddenly but from my experience, it is much better than a long drawn out gradual decline. I hope that when my time comes that I go in a similar way to your mum.

So awful for you, my mum had emphysema and died last Saturday unexpectedly also police and now shes with the coroners office, its a difficult time. I sympathise with what you are going through. Best wishes for resoloution soon

My sincere condolences to you and the family. Sudden death is so shocking but it sounds as if she didn't suffer. I don't know if she'd been ill but if not then it's the way to go. My mam died in a nursing home after 8 years with Alzheimer's, I managed the sheltered housing scheme where we lived, my dad had a flat right opposite us and I thought he had his life sorted but he died after just 6 weeks, he gave up, my husband could see it coming I didn't. He stopped eating threw his dinner down the toilet etc. My lovely husband started going in to see my dad every morning and found him lying dead across the bed one morning when I'd had to go to H.O. for a meeting. Unfortunately, there was a post mortem. I was so angry with dad at first, he didn't need to die, I thought I would have him for a long time, longevity was the thing on his side of the family but he missed mam so much. The funny thing was he wouldn't go to the nursing home, he seemed embarrassed but he once told me he was just waiting for a call to say mam had gone. I told him that would never happen as they didn't have his number, he was happy for me to make any decision about mam's care etc but he obviously loved her dearly. Sorry, I've gone on sometimes it's cathartic to get things off your chest. God Bless you all.

I hope things are a bit easier for you now. I lost my Mum about 18 months ago. I miss her so much every day, the pain has softened a bit but I don't think it will ever go away. It must have been a real shock for you. I am thinking of you today while a decision is made about the PM. Her spirit is with you

I am so so sorry. My dad passed away from IPF aged 66 in September 2005. He had a grim prolonged death but he died at home surrounded by his family & we took comfort from that & the fact that he was no longer suffering. I had to remind myself daily , for a long time , that he was no longer suffering & that made it semi bearable. I hope you can try to think of your mums passing in this way. I talk to my dad (and my younger brother who died suddenly when he was abroad with us in 2014). I know I’m going round the hills here but I have this belief that , however harsh on those left behind, people pass where they are at peace in many circumstances. Your mum must have known she had little time & she wanted to see the pier. You must take comfort in that she got to see the pier & therefore when she passed she was in a place of happiness. I tell myself this about my brother very often when my heart hurts. I hope you can see it that way. Back to IPF - it is a devastating diagnosis & illness. You try to talk to your mum & also look after yourself & your family 💔😪 xxx

My Husband like your Mum had a wish. He wanted to go to the seaside. I took him only four or five days before he left us to Weymouth and he rode his scooter up to the seafront. I’m so glad I took him. He had his last wish as did your Mum. It’s a lovely thought that a wish can be fulfilled. Xxx

I am deeply sorry for your loss, reading your post brought me back to when my dear Mum passed away, my Mum had emphysema and it was sudden too, my Mum also had a post mortem which confirmed that it was Emphysema that had taken her. It's so sad when it's your Mum, I love my Mum dearly as I am sure you do, with me as I am sure with you there is a hole in your heart that nothing can fill.
