Scooter, my rainbow bridge boy

fidgetandscooter profile image

Scooter was very different to Fidget. He was a goofy comedian whereas Fidget is a bit like an old man who always wants his pipe and slippers. Greyhounds, dogs in general, talking about dogs and being with dogs are what gets me through the day. I guess the thing I miss most is the long walks as I live in a rural area and am spoilt for choice with fields and footpaths. Although I've lived in the village since 1974, it seems as though it is now out of sight out of mind as I seldom see anyone now. Having said that I do have a network of friends who help me with everything logistic, like getting out of the house which hardly happens now. It's just as well that I can tolerate my own company and can get lost in the drawing.

I haven't been outside today. The pollen is too much.

You describe your dogs well, Scooter looks as though he could be a bit goofy and I can imagine Fidget being as you say despite his name. Living in a rural area must have it's advantages, I expect you get a lot of wildlife visitors. Having stimulating hobbies and being able to be happy with your own company too seem to be rare accomplishments these days.

I love living where I do. It has become more difficult recently as I can't even go shopping on my own. Up until the end of November I was as independent as I have been since 1980 when I got divorced. I had two young girls to bring up and as I used to love woodwork as much as drawing, I used to make them a lot of their toys. We do have a bus service of sorts, but like a lot of rural areas we cannot get to a lot of places without getting a taxi. The only thing I would change in my life is learning to drive. The world would have been my oyster then!

What would we do without our four legged friends. I hope you get the chance to venture out whilst it's nice weather. Love the drawings and the picture of Scooter. Xx

I just need to teach Fidget to walk nicely beside my 3 wheeled beast. Hopefully the doctors will also pull their finger out and change my medication a bit. Then I might be able to walk further than I can now. xx

I hope you can get your medications adjusted so you can walk a bit more. 🤞

That’s a lovely photo 🐕

Bless Scooter looks a lovely boy. 💞 Majt

He was very special. He was Fidget's litter mate.

Dogs are simply wonderful , love the pipe and slipper comment, our Mack is one of those also. Wouldn't be without mine either, means everything to me! Great photo.

Great photo and lovely that your dogs are so well loved. They are great companions and give unconditional love. Its strange that I have never owned a dog but always been around them. My Mum always had a dog and my daughter had a labrador for 12 years, they used to go mad when I visited, perhaps because I always played with them, but the welcome they gave me was overwhelming and I miss them something terrible.

Its a shame that you never learned to drive, but as they say its never too late. Enjoy the rest of your Easter x

I love dogs too. They ask for so little bit give so much. Couldn't live without one. We lost our 14 year old rescue yorkie recently. The pain is bad its impossible to describe.

We had many greyhounds over the years, they are perfect dogs to own

and need very little exercise.. They often prefer the sofa lol

You have been blessed with yours thank you for being an excellent owner to them

We will get another dog soon in the middle of moving home. Now though but I can t wait to meet our new earth Angel 👼

Lovely photo. Dogs are special. They don’t judge, they just love. Whenever i am down or cry, my dog sits with his head on my lap and just looks at me with eyes that say it all. He doesn’t move until he senses that i am feeling better. Lots of nice people on here to talk with, it helps to know people who understand. I wish you well. 🌷

Scooter looks beautiful, it’s amazing how different their characters can be. I have had five beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, they have all been gentle and affectionate but still have their own little characters. I’m so pleased you have fidget to keep you company. xx

I haven't been out today either. Scared to death of the cold, and now scared to death of the warm! Keep taking the tablets as they say and keep the exacerbations away. They have gone now but I had visitors for a couple of days. It was exhausting but a lot of fun. I am not entirely sure how to do it but I will try to send you a picture from our farm in Africa

When you start a new post it gives you the option to add a photo. The picture has to be on the device you’re writing the post on (unless you can Bluetooth it across I suppose) Then it gives you 3 options from where to choose your picture and I think it’s from Gallery though I can’t remember even though I did this about 2 days ago!

I did it! Heaven knows which bit of the ether the picture has landed in, it might catch up with you ...

If you use Windows, and want to post a photo(s) in a 'Reply', make a 'Public' folder in your One Drive with a copy of your photo(s) in it. Right-click on that file in the folder and create a 'Share link'. You can then post a link to that file as I've done below...

Good luck with that. 🤞

It's never too late to learn to drive! I was 40 when I eventually got my licence, which was a life's ambition (up 'til then I couldn't afford the lessons). In 2008, I did a tour of France (aged 55) - just me, my car, suitcase and SatNav - in 22 days! That wasn't enough time by half, to enjoy all it had to offer, so I've had to go back almost every year since (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!). I've visited almost every Region so far, even crossing the Pyrenees in 2017.... 😉 Thank the Gods, despite all my ailments, driving is one of the very few pleasures I'm still capable of. I'm now 65, and we'll be off to La Belle France again this September.

Don't be afraid - give it a try if you're physically able? Instructors are used to people of all ages and abilities, and it could open up a whole new world to you...? At least you could say you tried, and just the lessons would get you out for an hour a week...? 😊

This was Yellow Brook Miss - AKA our Daisy-Mae (or may not, depending on whether she could be bothered...?). She was a beautiful soul who passed over the Rainbow Bridge in early 2017. Sadly missed by us both, and Dandy the mongrel fleabag.
