This Age Thing.

Old age is a progressive thing

This is what I'm told.

There's no way that I know of

To put it all on hold

So bits fall off or else wear out

Until there's nothing left

By the time you reach your eighties

You feel somewhat bereft

I wish my prostate gland would go

Its use is totally abstruse.

In fact there's quite a lot down there

For which I have no use

But on we go regardless

Until there comes that day.

When we have nothing left at all

And we are quietly put away.

Humour is a tool available to us all to help deal with all the s**t that happens to us throughout our lifetime. 😉

I had to look up 'abstruse' Master Po and you were not winging it as they say.

Now i know what it means it's really made my day.:)

Happy Tuesday old chap, keep giving us the humour and verse especially with the absence of any Spring weather, we need it.:(

Ski's and the hairy one x

in reply to skischool

Thank you Grasshopper. The weather has been quite Spring like today, in fact I did my shopping at the garden centre for my tomatoe plants and flower seeds for propagating today. 👨‍🌾

Well you will live near to that big hill where the clouds unload their load of rain before reaching the coast. When you feel able you must pay me a visit. 😀

Your so funny Mr Don! What a BRAIN! Janet127

Just to add to the cheer

‘The last scene of all, that ends this strange eventful history,

Is second childhood and mere oblivion;

Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.’

The bard.

I'm quite enjoying the second childhood bit. 😃

"By the time your eighty years old you've learned everything - you only have to remember it."

Just one of the many problems of old age.

That was a quote by George Burns, remember him!

in reply to Lyd12

That is so true. I remember George Burns, but I remember Gracie Allen better.😉

My poor brother-in-law has prostate cancer with some spread but I hoped his sense of humour would see him out. He loved your poem! He's probably sent it round all his friends by now. Thank you for that.

in reply to Claudine

Thank you for telling me this. So sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, I've written this especially for him and his friends:

Who does it think it is

This blasted prostate gland

We never got to use it much

But it thinks itself so grand.

It rules our lives when we get old

And tries to do us in

If I could have it my way

It would be in the flippin' bin.

I am told that mine's enlarged

By those who are so wise

I said I had another part

I'd prefer a larger size

But we've got what we're given

And we must live with that

And to those who are having trouble

Gentlemen,......I raise my hat.
