Don’t hate yourself Casper, you’ll get there. Quitting smoking isn’t easy. I remember how Pete struggled. Hope you’re doctor can help you.

Take care xxxxx

If you go on anti depressants please request one's that doesn't cause asthma attack. I have been on anti depressants, many years ago when I give up smoking. Also ask your doctor for help in quitting smoking. Good luck

Hi Casper, I have been there myself...i tried many times over the years to quit smoking, patches, cold turkey, hypnotherapy etc. but still couldn't stay off the cigs up until last year. I joined a smoking cessation group and attended every week and I also took Champix which were fantastic for killing the urge to smoke. You smoke for the first week or so with them, and something in them makes you not want to smoke, i cut down to about 2 day by day 9 and by day 11 I didn't want anymore, i finished a 12 week course with them and am happy to say that my last cigarette was 30th September last year and very rarely get the urge to fancy one, for me they were a miracle. Perhaps worth a try if you haven't done so before. Take care and don't give up, you will get there xx

Hi skater girl.

Where do you get Champix. My Son has COPD and can’t give up smoking. It would be a good idea for him. I know he doesn’t want to smoke but has done it for a long time.

Either from your doctor of from a smoking cessation organisation. It was the only thing that finally stopped me smoking x

Thank yoy Skatergirl. I smoked myself for a few years and found it difficult myself to give it up although I didn’t smoke many a day. I don’t think I would be here now if I hadn’t given it up. I’ve now got to persuade my Son to give it up. He has tried.

DO NOT beat yourself up, everyone and I mean everyone, has had a number of setbacks before they stopped for good. The important thing is that you want to stop, you will succeed

Smoking is hard to give up especially if you enjoy it. I hated having the addiction when I hated going to the hospital more, I quit. Still in recovery for all the damage that has been done. My husband still smokes and I still have problems when he does. We are working on it though.

Morning Casper 20,we all have bad days, you won't be the first and last ♥. It's a minor set back, don't be so hard on yourself 😔 you are already making a mends proud of you for not giving up, so the days are getting warmer and longer enjoy the natural light and go sit in the garden with a blanket and watch nature. If this fails take a glass of wine 🍷 and enjoy the day. Don't give up so proud of you, it was never going to be easy.. Xx ♥

Do not blame yourself blame the cigarette manufacturers & Governments for

not stopping them being made. They know the effects but still carry on,and make

more and more by increasing tax.Their excuse the price will stop the smoking, when

they know it is so addictive and an addiction is just that.

Your two days was a good start, and l never thought l could make it after 58 yrs,

but by cutting down by five a day l eventually did it. And so can you.The next one you take out of the packet and put between your lips, put it back in packet and carry on with

what you were doing,or start something else. YOU WILL DO IT.

Don't beat yourself up. I stopped smoking a few times before i gave up for good.

I read somewhere that every time you stop smoking you increase your odds of success. Just keep trying and one day you'll do it.

When i gave up i kept telling myself i wasn't giving up but that I'd have one in 5 minutes. 5 minutes later I'd tell myself the same thing. That worked for me.

Well done Casper20 for giving up for 2 weeks that’s an achievement to be applauded. It took me a good 9 months of trying and starting to eventually give up by using patches. Like me they obviously work for you ( although it’s hard ) keep it up and try and try again until you do eventually give up . You will probably go through lots of highs and lows but even not to have one is a bonus , even when you eventually give up you’ll still have thoughts was it worth it ?

After 7 years of not smoking I can tell you it really is , keep trying 👍

Don't beat yourself up over the smoking, tomorrows another day. It took me three attempts , that was thirteen years ago. Wait till you feel better and try again one day at a time x

So you stopped smoking for 2 weeks... WELL DONE! Don't beat yourself up, congratulate yourself. Look what you just did, 2 whole weeks without a cigarette is great! You've already now proved to yourself that you can stop, so start stopping again now. If you manage to last 3 weeks the next time then so be it. It may take you a long time to be able to stop completely but don't give up, you've already done incredibly well. Just for those 2 weeks you've at least given your lungs a bit of a respite. For years after I stopped I never referred to myself as a non smoker but as a smoker who chooses not to; that made it feel like it was my decision and not that I was depriving myself. I'm so glad I stopped and you will be too. Please keep up the good work and give yourself a treat, you deserve it!

Hi Casper, don't hate yourself use it to your advantage, I have been where you are right now and it isn't easy, I went to my doctor and he advised me to use an electronic cigarette, vaping is now recommended by GPs and NHS, I haven't smoked now for 5 years having something to replace a cigarette makes it easier to kick the habit, so if my GP says it's ok and the NHS says it's ok why not give it a try.

Hope this helps you in you quest to become an ex smoker

"The Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by Alan Carr works! you read the book, you understand the addiction and how to beat it. There is nothing to 'give up" and everything to gain. Good read!

Hi Casper, I fully understand. I’ve done it too. The important thing is identifying it as a mistake and knowing it’s not a good thing to continue! Start again. If you purchased cigarettes-destroy them. You’ll tire of wasting the money for just one or two cigs. That’s what I did: I’d buy a pack, smoke one then be so mad at myself would throw em out the car window. I failed several times before my final quit in 2012. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I still take Buproprion aka Wellbutrin here in USA. And I still have an “emergency” cigarette & light in my lipstick compartment of my purse that’s surely very stale after these years. Been lots of times I wanted to smoke it but the fear of being seen or smelled or a coughing fit have all detoured me from my stupidity. Tomorrow’s another day start over! Good luck think good thoughts, brush your teeth and throw away the cigarettes👍!

Don't beat yourself up about it Casper, it's a hard thing to do, the main thing is to keep trying, the same happened to me and I ended up getting medication from the Dr, which helped immensely, and it is certainly worth it all in the long term...

This may not work for you. It stopped me smoking after a heart attack, eight years ago.

What else did you do, while you were smoking?

Whatever it was, try doing just that without the smoking. You’ll not want to smoke again for about an hour or so and when you do, do the same thing again. Keep doing this until in the end, you may progress to not even needing to do this, Just thinking about it.

I’d tried so many times to give up, once I managed six weeks.

After my heart attack, I was desperate not to smoke and I believed I’d never give it up. Then, I just thought about what I’d do while I smoke. I told myself to do just that, so I did. I went outside in the porch and watched the world go by. After about five or ten minutes, I went back inside, having not smoked. I didn’t feel the urge again for about an hour, whereupon, I did the same again. After everything else I’d tried for the previous couple of years, it actually worked and it was easy. That was for me. It may not work for you, but it won’t hurt you. Just make sure you don’t have anything to smoke anyway.

I hope it does work. I haven’t smoked at all from the day of my heart attack and I don’t ever feel like smoking, not even when I visit a smoker friend of mine.

Anyway, give it a try. You never know and good luck.

not an easy thing to do, i have given it up many times and failed, once i gave it up for 4 years when i was boxing and playing rugby but when i got to old and stopped training started again for no reason, smoked for years after that and about 10 yrs after gave it up again cold turkey, since then over the years i smoke them stop, smoke then stop, when i do not smoke it is fine but when i start back i just do it and enjoy them and this is how its been for many years, if you start back smoking just put it down to a slip up as if you dwell on it that will be no good, keep trying and one day it will click in and you will succeed, every day you give up is a plus so take it one day at a time and if you fail one day start again, you will do it i am sure so best of luck

Hi Casper 20. I would take those 2 weeks as a possitive. Well done for managing the 2 weeks. You havent failed, youve managed what a lot of people feel like they cant! Smoking is an addiction just like, say, drinking too much. So, the way I managed each time I started again (first time after 13 days, 2nd time after 2 years etc) is Im a smokaholic !!! Anytime anything goes wrong I still want to reach for them because the thing is I used to love every one I had. I have anxiety and depression and also suffer from ptsd. I have been getting help and it was one of the hardest things to actually do. I know how I am feeling, I cant put it into words and I have no control over why or what I am feeling which is very difficult and I nearly flung in the towel until I did get help.

Get the help you need off your gp, cut yourself some slack because youve done really well to manage to stop for 2 weeks. Try to remember that your body and mind will always try to give you a reason to start smoking again. Those troubles however minor they are will still be there once you have finished that first fag and you will probably be down on yourself that much that you will not stop at that first one.

Give it another few months before you quit again. Youve managed 2 weeks, so you know you can manage to go that long without one. Theres your first hurdle over with straight away. Good luck
