Long term use of steroids/dental work needed

Hi. I am on long term prednisolone for COP. All my current tests and readings are brilliant and after 2 1/2 years of use I am really relieved by that. However steroids have taken their toll on my teeth. Recently my gp advised that I would be eligible for free dental work including a couple of implants. I have run a couple of local practices but neither had heard of this. Just wondered if anyone has had experience of this or received treatment due to this and could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Because I was on long term steroids as well as alendronic acid for my bones....alendronic acid can affect the jaw bone ....my dentist referred my to the NHS dental hospital for my extractions, and that was free. I don't know if implants would be covered under the NHS though. I had to pay for my replacement plastic teeth later.

I used to work with a lady who had exactly this happen. She had to have all her teeth replaced due to the steroid damage

I have Emphysema COPD and used steroids for years. I now have allendronic acid for osteoporosis and I have lost nearly all my back teeth. Yes the Dental Hospital will take you on free but implants if you have enough jaw bone left will have to be paid for. Steroids have also effected my hearing and I now wear aids. Skin is the other casualty of course and bruising. But what else keeps us breathing?
