I had a friend who has suffered from this and he swore by a regular nasal decongestant, just bought over the counter in chemists , im sorry i cant name the one but my friend passed a few years ago. It may be an allergy of some sort. Hope this might be of some help. Burs x

I am going to make appointment to ask about nasal spray.x

Yes I get that especially at night. Vick up the nose and a Fisherman's Friend gets the air flowing again for me. 😉

Hay Awesome, Vick’s up the nose for me too but I’ll try the fisherman’s friend too thanks

I have got vic in the house. I will try it now.x

You need to get an air flow through your nose for it to work, the fisherman's friend works from the other end i e inside your head.

Sorry you have these probs with sinuses. I have had them with my last 2 exacerbations. Have you tried Neil Med. You can get it from your local chemist. Surprising the amount of gunk it clears which in turn can stop it dripping into your lungs. Worth a try. You can try Sterimar, which is already made up so it’s more expensive but you might prefer it just to see if cleansing helps.

Good luck

Your pharmacist can help, but one nose unblocking trick I use....breathe in gently ....not a big deep breath, then breathe out gently in a relaxed way, then pinch your nostrils for a few seconds, then breathe gently again. Repeat a few times and often my nose will start to clear.

Do it in a calm and relaxed way, and always breathe OUT gently before you hold your nose for a few seconds.

For panicky feelings have you tried the pursed lips breathing technique ....breathe in very gently with a relaxed chest.....not a big breath, but gently, then breathe out gently through your mouth with pursed lips for a slightly longer time. Repeat a few times , then back to gentle breathing.

Your local chemist can advise on medication....is there one open near you tomorrow? I hope your chest infection soon clears up . Best wishes.

Yes it is something which started some 11yrs ago.Unlike a lot of people who cough

up phlegm,l have never done this since the start of my COPD. But,and l do not know which is the better if any of the two, l think l prefer it to coughing up.The reason being, that it is not a constant.l use the same as others on here have mentioned, and it clears after a while.

Have not mentioned name as others have ??,because my post was deleted when l mentioned names !!!

Ask Dr for it and it should be of great help. LUCK.

Hi natalyab, this was how I started over 12 months ago. I had a really bad cold which didnt clear up after a couple of months on antibiotics and steroids, this left me with sinus infections for a very long time and am now waiting for an operation. I use sterimar twice a day, you can get a nasal spray from your doctor but make sure it is one that use can use for more than 7 days if needed. I use Nasonex, try not to stay on sprays for too long as this can cause problems. The ent doctor put me on a 6 weeks course of low dose doxycycline which really helped. Its important to get rid of sinus infections quickly as once they take a hold its really difficult shifting them. Hope this helps and you feel better soon x

in the past if I have had a sinus infection I usually have a headache. I don't have a headache but I do have some kind of bacterial infection which was diagnosed from my sputum sample. hopefully the antibiotics will help me.x

I often have a blocked nose due to sinus problems and the best way to clear it is to steam your head over a bowl of hot water and add some eucalyptus oil of you have some. Try that 3/4 times a day.

Or you can use a decongestant but check with your pharmacist regarding your other meds as they can interact. Or you could use a Squeezie or a Netipot instead.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Betterware sold (not sure if they still have them) a plastic with outer foam flask with a mask. Brilliant for steam inhalation. All the benefits of the steam over the bowl but without the wet hair and palarva. My GP used to say it was the best thing but that he wasn’t allowed to recommend it for safety reasons. Spent my childhood with my head over a steaaming bowl with a towel over my head.

I’d have to agree with cofdrop, I use a Neti Pot regularly then when needed we( here in USA) use a nose spray called Flonase.

I have the same problem I use olibus oil in a steam bath over my nose. I find it helps. I feel that sometimes its easier to breathe through the mouth which then gives me a dry mouth. Hope you can get on top of it, the other thing is not to panic. cheers

I use a neti pot and it's amazing what comes out even if it feels my nose is pretty clear. Especially after gently snorting water up each nostril separately and drawing it down the throat to spit out.
