Hi i have had a hacking cough for over two months,I've been treated with two sets of antibiotics and an inhaler but am still suffering. I feel like a nuisance keep going to my doctor but I really don't know what to do,I suffer terribly with shortness of breath plus i am also getting pain in my shoulder and ribs.

Hello Yogibear6 ,

Let me assure you, you are not a nuisance. Is your doctor a respiratory consultant? If not may be you need to ask for a referral to one? Two months of cough and no relief is bound to take a toll.

Sending warm wishes,

I suffered for 9 months before my doctor finally sent me for a CT Scan which showed I had developed bronchiectasis (not sure on spelling) and I now see a consultant on Feb 25th so keep pushing for an answer

Good luck it really is a drag the ironic thing is I stopped smoking 9 months ago and never felt so bad xx

Good luck for your con appointment. Just check on the internet that the consultant you have been referred to is a bronchiectasis specialist not just a general respiratory consultant. It is a complex condition and needs the expert to deal with it.

Take care and get your heart checked as well seeing a respiratory doctor

I had a cough for about 3 years, two clear X-rays but pushed for a ctscan and was diagnosed last year with Bronchiectasis. Ask about! Ask if it is Bronc. The only way to tell is from a scan - not an X-ray. Good luck!

Not long to wait for your appointment. That must be a relief.

You must not feel you are being a nuisance.

If your best friend were suffering like you, what advice would you give to them? I bet it would be hot foot it back to your gp! Good luck
