Hi, please don't expect too much from a first consultant appointment for which you may have to wait some time once a referal is made. It is likely to consist of you being asked a lot of questions for the doctor to be able to build up a history for his/her information followed by arrangements for tests which may include an xray, blood tests and possibly a scan. The latter won't be done on the same day but on a future appointment and the result of this will be made known at a future clinic appointment. It all takes time but that said you are already doing much to help yourself which can only help.

Best wishes

Hi first appointment 25th of this month...why would I have more test.. good to know surely they will have my spirometry test results as it was gone at the hospital and had x2 xrays whilst in hospital...I do expect them.to discuss the bloods they have already done as that is at same hospital....and inhaler management

Take all the tests you can, you may just get answer off someone that will help, i went to see a specialist and she told me i was looking well and cant understand why i have only 22% lung capacity, so that was no help, i do research on British lung foundation and have phoned a nurse who got back to me same day with a lot of help, try it cant loose nothing, things that make me breath harder is diesel fumes, perfume, scent, and so on. so try and avoid them, can be frustrating but stick at it and look for help any where you can, hope this helps

It does I have spoken to BLS nurse today as I was having a bit of a moment so frustrated with my Dr..this was a specialist my god...I want to know in English what exactly my reading means..when was you first diagnosed

My late husband Bob used to say of his COPD, he was like a waxed apple, perfect to look at but rotten at the core.

I just want to live well with this disease if that makes sense..I have got it can't change the fact I have so now I have to be the best I can with it.....goal to slow the progression down...stay at moderate next review .....dont know if that's possible but that's my goal...oh yes another continue to work and help look after my dad...and be able to still dance...be oxygen dependant free...so does that seem a realistic goal...maybe not but that's my goal

Keep up the fight, even after consultant visit you will still need to manage the illness yourself as only you can tell what makes you feel better. Best Wishes

You are right , the more you fret the worse it makes things. However it is not easy to stay calm, but I am sure you will get through no matter what as you are so determined to fight the demons. Every best wish and please keep us updated on how things are going, because no matter how strong we all get down time when we need a freind ot two. Take care xx

Lung conditions are not easy to understand , and emotions fly high at times. I have had COPD now since 2009 with only a few flare ups which I have managed myself, but I take three inhalers to survive the symptoms. Lifestyle changes are necessary to beat it. My family understand better now and if you contact British Lung Foundation, they have lots of leaflets , and help line for yourself and family. Breatheasy groups in some areas cater for patients and family of lung illness victims. Theres a start for you. Take care xx

Good morning Thank you having a bit of a tearful moment don't know why as today I feel no breathlessness. I think.i am just tired as still not sleeping well.

But I am going to get up shortly and plan my day...needed to come on here first. Thank you

Yes smoked stopped 1st December...I had x-ray when i was admitted.

Had spirometry at sandwell hospital follow up from hospital admission..that was 24 January..asked if results could be sent to GP ...they did ...I got phone call from my GP to say quote...your results show asthma...(New that coz asthmatic).and copd moderate...I asked what that mean...heard progressive and 62% before inhaler 77% after inhaler...until coming on here I didn't know types of COPD...tried to make Dr appointment to discuss face to face Dr said ...you have appointment to see a consultant..I said yes 25th Febuary..he said they will discuss it then..

I was and still on 100/6 forstair which have been on since last year for my asthma...having spoken to BLS nurse ask Dr if I could also be prescribed spiriva...which he did started that end of last week and blue inhaler when needs be...had no ct scan...so I don't know what type of COPD I have....got 1st appoinment consultant appointment 25th Feb.

I am trying to enjoy my life. What is your book??
