My journey with COPD part 4

Hello everyone, I’m feeling very chirpy today so if you are sitting comfortably, I will begin.

On Friday we left home amidst the snow and ice for a long weekend away; we didn’t have far to go and everything was fine until we turned off the main road. It wasn’t snowing but there was a lot of water on the road and where there were gates into fields, snowdrifts had been formed where it had been blown across the road. Fortunately we didn’t have far to go and arrived safely.

Now this hotel had a rather nice looking pool and as I haven’t been able to go swimming since our last holiday in Spain in 2017 I wondered if I could manage it.

I spoke with reception and explained my breathing problem and they were happy to do what I needed to do. I showered In our room, put on my cozzy and my dressing gown had a quick rest and then went down to the pool.

I didn’t think I would be strong enough but once I conquered my nerves I managed a length albeit VERY slowly. Then all I had to do was a quick dry and put my dressing gown back on and return to the room. No huffing and puffing getting undressed and dressed in the changing room, everything done at my pace.

I am thrilled to have achieved something I thought was beyond me as I failed miserably at rehab.

So, hopefully I will find a local pool who will allow me to do this, there is one very close by, 2 minutes in the car.

Yes, I DID IT!

Well done. How very satisfying. No wonder you are feeling good. And brilliant that you can keep at it.

All the best

Fantastic that you thoroughly enjoyed an amazing swim without the changing rooms being involved and you were comfortable.

It's something you have missed by the sounds of it and you will settle back in no reason why you can't use your local swimming pool ...I use mine from time to time I stay by the edge stop when I need to

Good luck with it x

Well done Jeanrita, I am not a good or even keen swimmer but was living in Cyprus until recently and had access to a pool so I used one of those long foamy things that children use for support and it was great, didn't get out of breath. I am not sure if it qualifies as good exercise though but it was fun.

Keep it up.

I smiled when I read this. I picked up a foam support as I went into the pool but, because I am extra buoyant it almost flipped me over when I used it.

I managed quite well on my own doing a very slow breast stroke.

I’ve never been a good swimmer but I just have this affinity for water, it draws me like a magnet and I feel so great when I’m in it.
