The boy stood on the burning deck

Coughing and gasping "Flipping heck."

"I think I'm going to breath my last

If don't do something very fast".

He had a badge with a big red balloon

That he had found in the Captain's room.

What's this he asked in consternation?

"Is it the British Lung Foundation?"

"Yes," he heard his mate intone,

As he handed the lad his mobile phone.

"Ring this number and ask for advice",

The lad didn't need telling twice.

The lady answered with this useful tip,

"First... get off that ****** ship!!"

I've heard so many rhymes that started with that first line over the years but this is definitely the best one ever 😅😂😭

I wonder what Felicia Hemans would think about that. I think I would be pleased if people were still quoting some of my words nearly 200 years after they were first published, despite some of the language that often follows them. 🙄

Oh was she the original writer. I don't think that I've ever actually heard the original poem. You're so clever about all that stuff can you tell me where I can I find it? But please don't stop your wonderful rhymes they always cheer us lot up 😊

Regards

Patsy

When was this? Whilst on a sailing holiday? 😮

No, an engine room fire on board a fuel tanker, scary as can ever be. I had to put the fire out before I could get out as the companionway was ablaze. An injector pipe had broken and was spraying diesel over the exhaust manifold.

You wrote recently on another subject saying you have never regarded yourself as brave! I can tell you that I would have been out of there like a shot, not noticing that the companionway was ablaze! 😮

Brilliant! You've surpassed yourself with this one Don.
