Dad passed from pneumonia

My dad passed away from pneumonia 5 days ago.

My father was a gentleman, generous, intelligent and most of all loving.Over 10 years my father suffered from spondylitis and arthritis in his neck, spine, hips and knees. Eventually he ended up in a wheelchair and could hardly walk. It was a struggle on the family but we got through some tough times. He always put a smile on everyone’s face. He always used to pick me up when I felt low. And gave the best advice when needed. On Sunday 5th of January 2019 he was rushed to hospital with difficulty breathing.Me and my mother stayed with him all through the night and day. By Tuesday 8th January 2019 he passed away at the age of 65. Diagnosis was pneumonia which also killed his father. I feel so broken, he was my rock, my best friend, my life. I was a daddies girl.

I feel so alone right now

Hi Claire, I’m so sorry for your loss he was so young. You will be feeling low because this has come as a complete shock to you and more so because he was your BFF. My dad was mine too and it took me a little while to appreciate the good times instead of the sadness but it will come eventually. I can’t begin to know your pain right now as mine has long been secreted into a box somewhere in my personal ether perhaps one day I’ll take it out. Stay strong honey for yourself and your mum and just remember wherever his beautiful soul has gone to, you can rest assured he will not be far from your side guiding you. I’m not a religious person but I do believe that and I have always had it in mind for myself. I’m happy to chat whenever you like but please don’t be a stranger, there are enough of us on here to life your spirits when you are low.

Lots of love & hugs

Oh, my..you touch my heart. I, too, was a daddy's girl. The youngest of 9 children, when I was born, my dad was older, was not working long hours so much as he was with the older children. We were very close. Time will make it better, but the missing will not ever completely leave. As it shouldn't for a dear dad. ❤️ With care, Jan

Hi Claire. My mum too passed with pneumonia within in a short time at the age of 65 so I really do understand all the emotions you are feeling right now. Please be assured you are never alone although I completely understand why you would feel like that. It is 30 years now since I lost my mum and whilst I still miss her, the pain has gradually been replaced with smiles and even laughter at all the special memories we shared. You too will get there but in the meantime never stop reaching out especially to all those close to you and in time you will all heal together, if not all at the same time but you will get there and you will be so grateful of all the special memories you have. Take care and God Bless x

Dear Claire I know thexactly depth of pain you are feeling right now,I lost my daddy in 2014 and like you he was my best friend and the person who loved me most in this world ,I think of him every day and to begin with I thought my heart would never heal I was just broken when he died but gradually the pain eased because of all the wonderful memories he had left me with, the love he had given to me and my sisters and to our children and to our Mammy whom he adored. I realised how truly blessed I was growing up with that love and knowing he was devoted to his family. His second love was football and was still refereeing at the age of 77,he was just a lovely man and now when I think of him I smile and just be so thankful he was my daddy. The terrible pain will ease and you will go on with your life never forgetting how lucky you had a father so loving and kind, there will be days when you will feel sad but think of the love he gave you,I am so sorry for your loss ,and I hope and pray you will get through and remember those sunny happy days you would have had growing up and the wintry ones too, memories of sandcastles and snowballs bring back such lovely memories. Wishing you peace and prayers for this very difficult time.

I am sorry for your loss Claire, pneumonia is such a nasty illness and terribly bad for any elderly or with a pre-existing condition.

My father was 64 when he passed away which was 9 years ago now, it was a terrible shock and I totally understand how hurt you will be feeling now.

Always cherish those memories as we are lucky to have them, remember some people don't have the joy of a loving father.

Everyday I still miss my dad, I miss having a chat on the phone or if something funny happens and I wish I could tell him about it. But you do learn to live with the grief and look back on your wonderful times with a smile.

It's not something you get over but you get better at living with it.

I hope you and your family can be there for each other and I wish you all the best in the future.

Much love x
