Lung Transplant assessment / LVRS

If you have LVRS can it make or cause problems if you have a Lung Transplant later ?

I’m about to see my surgeon later this month ( I think about LVRS ) but have just received a letter today from my consultant saying I may be better off having a Lung Transplant assessment so feeling a little confused. On my last visit to my consultant which was on Xmas Eve we did discuss Lung Transplant but was told it was probably a little early for me at the moment . But said it’s definitely something I would consider in the future now I’m wondering would having LVRS first make it more difficult to have lung replacement ? 🙈🙈

Hi Rich1957 . I doubt it. I don't think they'd recommend LRVS if they thought it would make a lung transplant difficult later. Hacienda had this surgery I believe and was still in the lung transplant list when she did it. xx 😊

Hi Rich, As Caspiana said I had this Procedure in June past, whilst still on the Transplant List. It was treated as a "Bridge" to help with my Breathlessness whilst on the waiting List. Go For it, Go For Both, Discuss everything with your Consultant. Professional Advise is key here. Good Luck xxx

I had valves fitted last year on my left side and although they have been slightly successful, they have caused other problems on my right lung . Although Glenfield Hospital have been fantastic I’m trying to find out all I can before I see my surgeon on January 22nd and be armed with every question I can think off . Before I had the valves fitted I didn’t ask all the questions and risks attached however small .

Ok, I didn't read your post properly. So, you had a slight improvement with the Valves, as I have had, better than no Improvement. They did mine whilst on the List, 2.5 years waiting for transplant. My Right lung was ok to have them although they did tell me I was Borderline for it, managed to insert 4 instead of the 2 that I was Told. My Left lung is Mush ( there words). I exercise and go to The Gym, I have Oxygen 16 hours, But I live a Good positive life, so much so That I have decided to "Come Off" the list, I am now 67 and I yearn for some Quality of life in whatever time I have left (Hope a good few Years yet). So Now I can Plan to see my Family Abroad, and plan other Holiday's. It was not an Easy Decision, I am still on a Ghost List till March. My Husband has been very very Supportive, he also wants a life to enjoy with me, so No more waiting for the Phone to Ring, I had not had 1 call from QE, My Transplant Hospital. I am still Positive and I wish you the same. Write down all your Questions, not matter how you feel, Be assertive, be Strong and you will Glide through your Assessment for Transplant. Good Luck Rich Be happy. Love n Hugs, Carolina xxxx

Thanks Carolina great words and makes you feel your not alone , the valves have worked and blocked that area . But it appears my lungs in the area where every bit joins together are like tissue paper ( their words lol ) so it has possibly pulled my right lung over and stretched something or other to make me worse off . So I will find out on the 22nd what the options are , like you I’m still positive and try to keep as fit as possible.

One good thing since Having the valves fitted , PIP have awarded me the enhanced mobility rate which has enabled me to get a car and has changed my life

Wishing you all the best , have a great time visiting family ❤️x
