I used to be on this forum under a different pseudonym so hi again!
My asthma seemed to be going well; until last week, my last attack was ‘just’ a severe one back in August 2017. Caught it early, out the same night. In March this year, I stepped my Seretide inhaler down from 250/25 (2 puffs twice a day) to 125/25 (2 puffs b.i.d) and was doing fine. Only issue was that I absolutely had to stick to it; I usually am good with my inhalers anyway, so that wasn’t even a problem, it’s just that if I did miss a dose I felt it.
On the evening of Saturday 17th, I had a really bad attack. Luckily I very narrowly missed ICU because Magnesium is the best thing in existence, but it was a scary ride and I was very ill. I turned around very quickly and was out — on the condition of resting hard and going straight back if I started to get any worse — by the next evening. I had mixed feelings about this at first and would likely stay another night if it happened again, just for security, but point is I was out. This was my first attack since coming to uni, so my parents took me home for a few days which eased the worry a bit but still
So now I am just waiting on an appointment with the asthma team at St. James’ in Leeds in about 3 weeks’ time. What can I expect? I’m currently on:
— Seretide 125/25
— Atrovent (the doc questioned that because it’s not a usual choice but I explained that I’ve been established on that/Spiriva for a while)
— Montelukast 10mg
— Salbutamol inhaler as needed
— saline nebs when ill (again doc asked about that but it was recommended a few hospital stays back and helps when I’m not so well)
I don’t know why the attack happened and I don’t know really what can be done. I guess this was mostly just a vent but if anyone here has been with St. James’ team, or has any thoughts, please let me know!
