In my opinion it would be okay unless you eat high levels of oily fish, eggs, full fat dairy products or fortified cereals.

Here's what it says in my vitamin, mineral & supplements bible; The Pocket Guide to Vitamins by Angela Dowden (I highly recommend it, a small, easy to understand booklet. I have a kindle version as well).

"Toddlers, pregnant and women 65 & over are the groups the Department of Health specifically recommends daily 10micrograms of Vitamin D3 - 25ug or mcg is our safe upper limit

(in America it's 15micrograms and for the over 70s 20mcg (or ug))"

I think I take at least the upper level which includes my daily multivitamin & mineral.

If you're taking vitamin D3 for bone health it's recommended that you take K2 as well

*MICROGRAM

One microgram is one millionth of a gram and one thousandth of a milligram. It is usually abbreviated as mcg or ug. Mcg and ug are the same.

I take a D3 tablet in the winter months of 25ug along with my multivitamin which contains 5ug, it's fine. Last year I was a bit low and the specialist recommended double that dose so I'm sure it's quite safe.

I Take 6,000 mcg vitamin D daily. People with emphysema are usually low on vitamin d, especially if you don't get any from the sun. I have taken 5000 i.u. vitamin A daily for about 10 years with no side effects.

By the way, multivitamins usually contain synthesized beta-carotene, which substantially increases lung cancer risk if you are a smoker.

Also, a study done here in Australia found that the increase in lung cancer risk continues for 10 years after ceasing smoking. The risk decreases each year.

Hi Redsox. I meant to say the risk decreases over a 10 year period.

I did say in my post "the risk decreases each year".

Also I am referring to synthesized beta-carotene, not natural beta-carotene from food.
